I had a great evening of leisure viewing. I started with CASABLANCA in HD. Spectacular. Noticed lots of details I hadn't noticed before (though the blacks weren't as deep black as I remembered them being).

Bogie was nominated for Best Actor for this. Bergman got her nomination for FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS rather than for CASABLANCA. I doubt she would have beaten Jennifer Jones no matter which film she got her nomination for (and she won the next year for GASLIGHT). They are so spectacular together that every scene brought tears to my eyes.

Laura you are an inspiration.  I'm going to suggest fostering cats to Gretchen.  She doesn't want to have the long term commitment of another pet - at least not right now, but down the road, she may like the idea of fostering.

What a great idea.  I'm sure you will have many opportunities in the near future to be there for her.  I like she has already planned a trip with her sister.  Maybe you both can go somewhere later.

She and her sister have taken many long distance road trips. They have also gone to Mexico and Costa Rica and other places as well (no they didnt' drive).  they are both in their 60s and are retired so there isn't any rush to get home etc.

Depending on where they go, I may fly out to see them

When I finished the movie, I watched the "making of" documentary which was about a half hour. They showed clips from either the trailer or some previous print of the movie, and BOY could you tell how much restoration had to be done on the movie to get it into the shape it is in now.

Next I watched another episode of LIE TO ME. I enjoyed both cases being investigated in the episode I watched tonight.

Hi DR Jose.  Did you and Monkey have a nice time at the Smithsonian?

Yes, we did. :)

In fact, I had such a good time today, that I'm seriously considering staying down here in DC one more day to spend more time down on The Mall.  Tomorrow, I'll be at the Library of Congress all day with DR elmore and company, and I think I might go ahead and spend Wednesday going through a few more museums.  -It's either the last week of summer vacation or the first week of school for the counties around Washington, DC, so the museums were quite "roomy" today.

*And since I went ahead and TwitPic'd some of my pics, a few of the Smithsonian museums are now Following me on Twitter. :)

Nice all around.  Have fun tomorrow.

And I ended my evening viewing with last night's MAD MEN. Enjoyed the show. Loved Joan playing the accordian and Pete's Charleston. Betty had on a stunning maternity dress that only made her appear more ravishing.

DR Matt H, thanks for the HD CASABLANCA report.  I guess we should upgrade our DVD.

I think if I fostered, I'd have to approve where they went....no, I'd end up with a house full of cats...I couldn't let them go

Keith's reaction today, when I mentioned where Jane & her kittens went, is why we don't foster.  With great concern he said "What if they aren't adopted!!!"

That's why you contact a shelter. They own them. They just stay with me for a while. I actually get antsy when they are pet-shop size. I want them to go to adoptions while they still have the "cute" factor.

Greetings from Great Wolf Lodge in Washington, actually fairly close to DR George.  The kids are having a ball and I am finding out I am way too old to be going on water slides.  :)

DR DAW - Fuddruckers still makes a good burger - if you can find a location that is still open.  There are still a number of locations in Virginia, but there used to be more.

*My Mom also liked Fuddruckers, but mainly for their "salads".  Well, the salads she would construct herself from the Fixings Bar - lettuce, tomatoes, etc. ;)

With all the Ice Cream talk the other day, and the Hamburger and Hot Dog talk today, I'm wondering if HHW should just go ahead and become a sister site of This Is Why You're Fat.

I have an Oriental rug airing outside, so most likely the rain will last a bit.  if the rug were inside, the rain would quit!

DR Kerry - Hopefully, the next sound you hear won't be dripping, if you get my drift.  -And I hope you don't.  -Or something like that.

Glad to hear that you're all moved in.  Now just take the time to get everything set up just right and just the way you want it.

Well...

I've already been drifting in and out for the past hour or so - which is a good thing since I have to get another early head start in the morning in order to make it down to the LoC on time.  So...

Goodnight.
