Favorite Rock Hudson movies:

PILLOW TALK

SECONDS

SEND ME NO FLOWERS

GIANT

WRITTEN ON THE WIND

IRON MAN (he's surprisingly good as a boxer in this, a supporting role)

When I first saw MAN'S FAVORITE SPORT? as a teenager, I really loved it, but the last time I watched it on DVD, it bored me to tears. It's WAY too long, and Paula Prentiss got on my nerves instead of being endearing.

Back from the jeweler and it's too early to meet my friend at the park.  I was going to spend the hour at our local public library, but due to budget cuts they're now opening at 10am instead of 9.

They are going to rebuild all 4 prongs on my engagement ring.  Kinda pricey, but cheaper (both in dollars and emotions) than replacing the diamond.  The really surprising thing is that the cost is the same amount I was quoted to rebuild a similar ring in 1990.  We decided then, when we were living on one income, that it wasn't worth the investment.

I've got some writing to do here, and then I'll head down to watch more BONES episodes and then start on lunch preparation.

We're baaaaack.  Got home to two very exciting emails, not sure if either will pan out, but there's an offer to provide a soundtrack to a video game and, perhaps more lucrative, a very well known jazz artist is interested in a holiday tune of mine (which Elmore has heard).  The Fox royalties on that one alone could buy at least 3 or 4 Blu-rays.  :)

TOD:

Not a huge fan of Rock Hudson's movie work.  I did like him in GIANT and he's easy going enough in some of his comedy work.  But I enjoyed him the most every week on MACMILLIAN AND WIFE.

TOD - I saw Rock Hudson on stage in Detroit in a touring On the Twentieth Century.  He was not up to the challenge.

Last night I watched Billy Wilder's AVANTI! (which was not on TCM.)  It's a fun movie but it runs way too long and it occasionally dates itself with cultural references and some very obvious gratuitous nudity.

OMG!  I completely forgot that I saw him in that, too, on a trip to San Francisco.  Yes, DR Ginny--he wasn't the grandest of Oscar Jaffes.  But he did look like he was having a fun time up on the stage...

I think this was also the performance I saw where the train model kept stalling in the middle of the stage and two stagehands came out at one point to push it with a stick.

I tried to watch DANCING WITH THE STARS  last night, but they really ain't stars and it really ain't dancing - so I didn't stay with it.

The second Leslie Caron movie last night was THE DOCTOR'S DILEMMA with Dirk Bogarde.  From the title I thought it was one of Mr Bogarde's Doctor series movies, but it turned out to be a film adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's play.....but I didn't watch it to the end....

DR MBARNUM - Barbara Bostock's boyfriend named Dog was played by James Komack who was in the Broadway and film versions of DAMN YANKEES and he is also a television writer and producer.  He produced Bill Bixby's show THE COURTSHIP OF EDDIE'S FATHER

DR JRand, I think it will only be 4 flights to get to the 5th floor.  At least that's what I keep telling myself.  Our landlady emailed to ask if we'd like her to leave a bottle of wine.  I told her that would be nice, along with some oxygen.

I like Mr Hudson in SECONDS, but it is a very dark movie, and his leading lady is very - uh - unusual looking.

I've always felt that Rock Hudson was a tad under-rated as an actor.  He could, with the help of a good script and a strong director easily jump from light comedy to heavy (and sometimes heavy-handed) drama.  When I was very young, I often mixed up Rock Hudson and John Gavin, both stalwart, swarthy handsome men with finely chiseled features.  Once I got over that confusion, I found that Hudson was the more interesting actor - even in PSYCHO and SPARTACUS John Gavin is bland.  That said, it's off to the T.O.D., favorite Rock Hudson performances:

PILLOW TALK
LOVER COME BACK
DARLING LILI
GIANT
SECONDS
STRANGE BEDFELLOWS
MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION
EMBRYO
THE MIRROR CRACK'D
BATTLE HYMN

Well it's taken me a long time, and I know it may not be a popular decision, but after seeing all of the commercials on television I have decided -

Today is the day that I show my bladder who is the boss.

How does the MGM vault give the wrong tapes to someone?  Doesn't said person realize that he has the wrong tapes?  Strange.

Hello, everyone.

I quickly skimmed the posts, so I can't say I'm fully caught up. However,

HEALTH VIBES TO ARNOLD!

CONDOLENCES TO GEORGE ON THE LOSS OF HIS BOXES. I, too, have had thieves visit and you really don't know what all is missing for some time.

CONTINUED VIBES TO PAPSAURUS.

Ginny, have you thought about doing a little pre-trip stair climbing? It might make it easier once you get to NY.
