I'm also feeling kind of shallow looking at these 30s pictures.  Many of the images contain people who were probably spending their entire day working hard enough to scrape together enough money to buy their families and themselves some kind of meal, and here I am admiring the pictures for their beauty.

Happy Belated Anniversary wishes to you all -- and congrats and best wishes for many more to all you Hansies and Kimlets, and to the Grand Pooh-Bah himself BK!

Good morning!

Unseasonably warm this morning for my walk, and the clouds are moving in bringing rain (maybe as much as two inches from the remains of Hurricane Ida). We've already had some drizzle this morning, but I was back from my walk before it started.

A Belated Happy HHW Anniversary from me, too.  Circumstances were keeping me from not doing much more than occasionally lurking yesterday.

I really adore Carol Burnett. Lily Tomlin, Gilda Radner, and Madeline Kahn are all favorites.

And the Lucille Ball on I LOVE LUCY is irreplaceable. Funny, but I don't find her nearly as appealing in any of her movies (as a comedienne) or in any of her subsequent TV series.

As I mentioned last night, the plans today are for me to work on SCRUBS - Season 8 on Blu-ray. I'll be curious to see the show on HD because they weren't broadcasting it in HD back when I was still watching it. I'll be interested to see the characters and the sets in greater detail.

However, I've been assured that I will be receiving last week's Blu-ray releases of I LOVE YOU BETH COOPER and ALIENS IN THE ATTIC, and if I do, those will get priority since they're already out, and SCRUBS doesn't come out for another week.

Can't wait to see last night's CASTLE episode while I eat lunch. It has become (along with BONES, THE MENTALIST, MODERN FAMILY and MEDIUM) among my favorite shows on network TV.

(Of course, those very entertaining cable shows like THE CLOSER and BURN NOTICE and LEVERAGE are also right up there among my favorites.)

A favorite female stand-up of mine is Reno.  The first time I saw her I thought I was going to choke from laughing so hard.  Unfortunately, she has a lot of personal problems and doesn't work as much (or become as famous) as she should.

Oh, and Cher had her moments on the Sonny and Cher Show -- she did this character in a beehive, cat glasses, and a leopard skin jumpsuit.
And I always thought Babs showed good screwball comedic chops in her comedies like What's Up Doc, etc.

Good morning, all! This morning I shall head down to Toyland to pick up a few items and to look for a missing orchestra score. On the way I shall stop at Macy's and check out their comforters. I am finding nothing online that I like.

After that, it's back here to work on some Moross film music, Overture to THE SHARKFIGHTERS, and see what new fresh hell is brewing.

TOD:
Carol Burnett: JULIE & CAROL AT CARNEGIE HALL, the "Gone with The Wind," "Mildred Fierce," and "Babes In Barns" parodies
Madeline Kahn: "Das Chicago Song" is still the funniest Brecht-Weill parody ever and her young Lenya wonderful
Rosalind Russell in AUNTIE MAME: especially as a switchboard operator
   Lily Tomlin's Ernestine
Lucille Ball: my favorite episodes are the William Holden and Tallulah Bankhead ones
Honorable mention: Mildred Natwick, Margaret Dumont, Marian Lorne

Tuesday morning greetings!  I'm doing something I probably haven't done for about 20 years - watching SESAME STREET.  Lin-Manuel Miranda is on as a real estate agent trying to talk Big Bird into migrating to a warmer climate.

I have some tidying up to do on the desktop and then will head down to check on the mail and then start some leisure viewing before settling in for work later.

I am glad to see some other names that make me remember.....

Madeline Kahn in WHAT'S UP DOC?  "What are you doing with Howard Bannister's rocks?"

Rosalind Russell in AUNTIE MAME and some of her Woman vs. Man comedies..... "Is you is or is you ain't my baby?"

Carole Lombard to be sure....MY MAN GODFREY

Mildred Natwick in BAREFOOT IN THE PARK and THE COURT JESTER

DR MATTH if you haven't seen Lucy in EASY TO WED, playing the Jean Harlow role, you might like her there....and of course THE FULLER BRUSH GIRL.

Betty Hutton in MIRACLE OF MORGAN'S CREEK

Claudette Colbert in MIDNIGHT and THE PALM BEACH STORY

Marjorie Main in anything.

Mary Wickes in anything.

Doris Day in PILLOW TALK and LOVER COME BACK

Druxy, you'll get no argument from me regards Carole Lombard.  I was actually going to pick Irene Dunne myself...her work with Cary Grant in stuff like MY FAVOURITE WIFE & THE AWFUL TRUTH (Nothing funnier than her pretending to be Cary's sister and singing "Gone With The Wind") and, of course, THEODORA GOES WILD.

Aside from the aforementioned Gilda Radner (whose Roseanne Rosannadanna and Miss Emily Litella are two of my favorite comic creations), Lily Tomlin and Madeline Kahn (whose performance in "What's Up, Doc?" remains my favorite of hers), I will also name Gracie Allen as one of my most-favorite comediennes.
