Yikes DR JANE - THAT is snow.  We are still having snowfall, but not much accumulation.

Miss Blue Moon enjoyed the snow very much - so I hope she has lots of it where she is.

Here are some Snow Pics from The New York Times.

Uh-Oh... I hope that Greg is keeping an eye on things down in Atlanta for DR edisaurus:

No snow in Atlanta, but potential floods

*Charleston, SC, is has also been dealing with some record rainfall and potential flooding the past couple of days.

Oh, man!  I am here at Panera with Ye Olde Laptop.  I came home at noon to find a house without any power whatsoever.  I called the DWP from my cell and was told that a transformer in my neighborhood blew affecting 600 people.  Unbelievable!  ETA?  Midnight tonight, although they're "onsite" working on it.  I made them switch me to a supervisor - when I got her on the phone I said midnight was sort of unacceptable and that even MORE unacceptable was that in the year 2009 the friggin' DWP has no BACKUP system for problems like this.  She said they did but didn't explain why it wasn't being used.  She simply explained they were working on it and it could be back up before midnight.  I told her I'd just opened my latest DWP bill for $900, which is a third more than my bills were in June and that for $900 I expect a backup system to be used or power to be restored in a timely manner.  They don't care - they're not affected.  Most of the signals are working, but at least one is out.  It's certainly not affecting Panera.  I shudder to think what this might have done to the computer, wireless router and modem.  And if it's not up by six and I have a problem with any of that stuff, I won't be able to call about it until tomorrow.  Therefore, IF there's a problem it means I have to come back to Panera later to write the notes - IF I have any battery left by then.

TOD:

CASTLE

THE AMAZING RACE

BIG BROTHER

SOUTHLAND (now cancelled)

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (now cancelled, I think)

LIFE ON MARS (now cancelled)

MODERN FAMILY

Those were the only shows I watched in 2009, so I don't have ten total. But I sure liked all of 'em.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT is not canceled. It'll be back in the new year, and if it scores higher rathings that Elfman's ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE, it'll get a renewal for next year, too.

And I'm hoping my phone is charging by being plugged into the computer.  That battery was halfway down despite the fact that I charged it overnight and haven't used it that much today.

bk - 1) Did you unplug your computer components and TV before you left your house?

2) Did you not bring the power supply-A/C adapter for your laptop with you to Panera?

3) $900 - WHOA!?!?!?

I hope your power is restored sooner rather than later.

Back from some errands with my niece, during which time I hope my mom took a nap.  Laura and I went to Walgreen's, Kathryn's (the local Vera Bradley pusher retailer), and to Bern's greenhouse for my annual quartet of miniature poinsettias.  Kathryn's also sells a lot of used furniture on consignment and we found 3 possible baker's racks for my mom's home-to-be.  Laura took photos with her phone to show to Gram.

I know power outages are irritating as hell, but you folks do have nice, warm weather today don't you? It's 35 here. I'm praying OUR power stays on.

Well... It sounds like you're iPhone battery has reached it's "half-life" - which, unfortunately, comes quicker than one would like.  However...

-Have you turned off "Location Services"?
-Do you have any "Push" notifications turned on?
-Have you dimmed your Brightness setting?
-Do you turn-off the Wi-Fi when you're not near a Wi-Fi signal? -The iPhone will continually look for a wireless hub otherwise, and drain your battery.

-And, yes, your phone should be charging via your laptop battery.

Now probably wouldn't be a good time to remind BK that our household was without power for 5 (count 'em, 5) days in 2008 when Hurricane Ike roared through SW Ohio.

I finished that MENTALIST episode that  had started. I remembered the killer (as I mentioned last night), but I had forgotten one piece of the puzzle with another killer, so rewatching the show reminded me of it.

I watched another MENTALIST episode while I ate lunch. This one guest starred Elisabeth Roem as a psychiatrist who had helped Jane get over his grief after his wife and child were butchered. She's still a stiff presence as an actress, and never the least bit sympathetic. I honestly didn't remember much about the episode, so it was a pleasure rewatching it.

Then I watched another Warner Archive offering: EVERYBODY SING. It's funny. Judy Garland had one of her first record hits with "Everybody Sing" but in this movie, neither she nor anyone else ever sings it. I think she sings in in another one of her early MGM movies.

I didn't know Panera had plugs, so if I have to come back, which I'm praying I don't, then I'll bring the power cord.  So, if the iPhone battery needs to be replaced, do I do that at the Apple Store?

I both read and enjoy and am inspired by the notes, on the days I am on the board... however, as tech challenged as I am, I could not figure out how to read notes from the days I'm not here - untwist those panties, BK! Unboggle the frontal lobes...

Then I watched an episode of SUPERNATURAL from the 4th season Blu-ray set. I remembered that I still had four more episodes to go in that set, so I put on the last disc and started it. This was the one where Dean and Sam find out they have a half brother. I remembered very little about this episode, so the surprise twist near the end was a REAL surprise.

I did a two-mile jog and it is a beautiful day so that's nice.  What's not nice is being able to be at home on my computer or watching a movie.
