Tomorrow I'll deal with disc three in the CHE set, the bonus features. I guess if CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2 shows up tomorrow, I'll have to put CHE aside since it doesn't come out until January 19th and CHEAPER came out today. Otherwise, this will be a good one to get out of the way.

I took another look at the five-film CHANTEL AKERMAN box today. Three of those films are less than an hour in length, so that will allow me to get through the box quicker than I had thought I would.

I spent the first three hours of my evening watching the second half (2 hours, 9 minutes) of CHE. As involving as the first part was, that's how desultory the second part was. It was AGONY to sit through. It covers the 11 1/2 months of his final failed campaign in Bolivia trying to rouse the peasants to overthrow the government and finding them uninterested and suspicious of strangers. As smart as the man seemed to be, I could tell it was a lost cause at LEAST halfway through the campaign. I cannot IMAGINE why they kept pressing on when it was obvious that they were not only NOT gaining momentum, they were losing supporters left and right. Argh!

I remember running into a woman who had just sat through both parts of "Che" at The Ziegfeld.  When I asked her what she thought of the movie, her response was something along the line of:

"Well, the first part was war, talk, war, talk, war, talk.  The second part was just mainly war."

Hmmm, I've been thinking about what non-fiction book I would write. I've considered writing about the way we saved an amusement park from developers. I actually have interviews of all the major players and a lot of minor players that I did after we made it.  I can't remember the number now, but i think we raised 7 million dollars in 6 weeks.  Kids did lemonade stands, two of us organized a telethon on local TV that raised 40,000. We didn't really have one or two "Angels" the community raised at least 75% of it.

It was 10 years ago, when I lived at the lake.  I don't think I worked more than a couple days that whole month.  Marilyn Maye was at every single event we did.  I've never interviewed her about it, I should do that when she comes to Okoboji next summer.   She was fabulous about it.   She's been going to Okoboji every year since....gees maybe forever!

Back in the 70s I took a large Y cut subway token, had it cleaned and made into a necklace.  I still have it somewhere.

Watched an hour of a motion picture on the DVR.  Now I think I'll try to finish this little section I'm in - my first time before a camera for a screen test to star in a pilot.

"In heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here, and when we're gone from here, our friends will be drinking all the beer"

When I was at Iowa the marching band played this every time the football team scored.  They also played the song "cocaine" and the crowd sang along.   Well first the song "Cocaine" was forbidden, now they can only play the beer polka as a victory polka at the end of the game and only one chorus.     Times have certainly changed, but I'm glad they got to play it at the Orange Bowl!

Oy, I spent the day reviewing music titles.  The best one was the great new Michael Tilson Thomas series KEEPING SCORE.  I've already done two episodes.  Today's was Berlioz and Symphonie Fantastique.  Then there was the mostly excellent Jose Feliciano Paris concert Blu-ray.  And lastly, a good, if exhausting, audio only Blu-ray of Mahler's Second featuring world renowned (not) conductor Oleg Caetani.  It was actually a surprisingly visceral performance.  I of course grew up listening to Mahler done under the baton of Grand Prix du Disque winner Maurice Abravanel, whose Mahler cycle was iconic in its day, so it's hard to impress me.  You haven't heard Mahler's choral pieces until you've heard them sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in the Tabernacle (which is where the Utah Symphony used to perform).

I have no idea if DAW will write me back.  This has nothing to do with the board, really, it's a personal thing with DAW and I'm trying to see what can be done.
