WOW, I just went to the website to see how much it would cost to get the Ultimate Coconut cake delivered.  It has to be Fed Ex overnight.  It came ot over $200 for one cake!   Never mind

Well... Just have a party... Invite 19 of your friends, and have them each "donate" $10 towards the cost of the cake.  ;)

*Actually, I think it does cost $10/slice at the Peninsula Grill. So there'd be no mark-up involved. ::)

The Fed Ex charge was over $100 of it so it's closer to $5 a slice without shipping

But don't forget the fancy plate with the streaks of chocolate sauce and crème anglaise and strawberries?

I need to start thinking about what I want to serve for the open house at the office.  It's a 4:30-6:00 pm thing on ground hog's day.  The thing is I have no idea how many will come.  I'll invite my friends and the local lawyers, so I can get an idea there, but it's also going to go out in the Chamber of Commerce email blast.  I have no idea if many or any will show up from that - other than the ribbon cutters.  Hmmmm

Weather permitting? ;)

Btw, if you don't want to make "crème anglaise", you can just melt some Hagen-Dazz Vanilla Ice Cream.

For the most part, yes.  Some may be from weddings taken by the wedding photographer, but for the most part, they are taken by him, usually with his iPhone!

One other question: For cookies, does you DP prefer flat cookie sheets? or rimmed "jelly-roll" type ones?  -Does it make a difference?

He prefers the "jelly-roll" type ones.  It does make a difference, without the sides it gets more air flow around the cookie which can give you a crisper cookie.  The "jelly-roll" pan gives more control over the cookie in his HO.

Back from a lovelier than lovely dinner partay - great food, really nice company.  More later.  On the way out there are five steps at the bottom of a long walkway to their front door.  It's pitch black there and I very carefully got down the steps.  I then turned took three steps and went crashing to the ground because the sidewalk is cracked and pitched really high on one side of the crack and again it's pitch black there.  I went down hard on my side and my right hand hit the damn pavement so hard I thought I was going to die.  I don't think I did any serious damage as it now doesn't have serious damage sort of pain, but boy is it sore and maybe I sprained some thing.  But I can bend it and if I press near any bone there's no pain at all, just soreness.  Writing may be a little more difficult for the next few days, typing-wise.

Meanwhile, had a wonderful message from muse Margaret saying she really enjoyed the latest and also the revised stuff - I called her back to get details but they've already gone to bed, so I'll call her first thing in the morning.

I seem to have managed to make it back from the land of the dead that I have been visiting for the last week.

Saturday Jan 2nd at 8:00AM I went down to my car to go to Gelson's to get coffee and danish, to find that someone had peed on my car.  That was the last straw for this building.

So I think I found a way to make the move to Ventura.  The commute by rail will be OK to and from work.
And I can stay in town one night a week with my daughter at her grandma's, and one night at my friend Tom's.  So I would only make the drive from Ventura one morning a week, and the drive back one night a week.

I HATE THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY THAT RUNS THIS BUILDING.

My friends have owned the front house for 20 years, and they just purchased the 2nd house on the lot.  Both built in the 1920's.   The unit I will be in is being refurbished and should be ready early March.  The windows and floors are the original wood from when the house was built, it really is like going back in time, before air conditioners, before closets for storage, etc.   But the view is beautiful, you can see the ocean from the living room and bedroom windows.

This is my last move, next one is the old people home.

Bruce, take great care of your damaged areas.  Be prepared for some swelling and other discomforts, including pain.

I'd recommend tincture of arnica for it, but arnica is very hard to find these days except in a diluted gel form.
