Congratulations to DR Elmore for having his letter to the editor published in this week's ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY.

And I couldn't agree with you more! Thanks for writing!

Thank you, DR MattH! I sure a lot of the impetus was my anger over GUIDING LIGHT and the fact that my best friend is now uemployed but I also do not understand the low ratings for OLTL. It's a much better soap than AS THE WORLD TURNS and DAYS OF OUR LIVES. In 11 years of working out of my apartment, I've seen most of them at one time or another!

Very cool on having your letter published, DR Elmore!  I did read that letter but did not take notice of the name.  Congrats!

I was really surprised when EW contacted me about publishing it!

Greetings from Toyland.

I noticed that Steven Suskin's SHOW TUNES has a new edition coming out next month. I've never owned any of the other editions of the book. Is it worth getting? On the surface it sounds like an indispensible book for lovers of musicals, but until the write-up at Playbill, I had never heard about it.

So, opinions anyone? I'm sure some of you must have one of the previous editions.

I had the first and second editions and, much as I like Steve, I don't think I will buy the new one without perusing it in a B&N somewhere. Most of the stuff that interests me is earlier than the date where Steve chooses to begin!

Re: the Golden Globes ceremony Sunday:

I was delighted by a number of the winners, including Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Drew Barrymore and Michael Giacchino.

I thought the taste levels were breached at various points, primarily in Gervais' tasteless opening monologue, and in subsequent comments from Gervais and one or two presenters.

And I give a rat's ass in hell whether or not James Cameron had to "pee" or whether he subsequently relieved himself (or not).

The most boring acceptance speech, I'm sorry to say, came from Christoph Waltz, whose droning expostulations about Tarantino's hiring of him were vomit-inducing for me.  Seriously...

I suspect the car has a crush on one of the mechanics.

Re: Martin, I really like THE YOUNG LIONS.

Dean Martin surprised me regularly...and almost always when he was away from other Rat Packers.

I think he is delightful in "Bells Are Ringing"....and superb in "Toys in the Attic."  I enjoy, thoroughly, his "western" performances, too.

Yes, me and Lori Nelson - who was once married to Johnny Mann (of the Johnny Mann singers), as Lori always says interviews.

Watching A TIME FOR SINGING on TCM with Hank Williams Jr.  A Sam Katzman/Four Leaf Craptacular.

Williams, Jr, has a nice voice and does some fine country singing.....and Shelley Fabares shows she has more guts than anybody by getting up in a Hank Williams Jr movie and "singing" a song called "Next Time I Say Goodbye, I'm Leaving."

Oh! One of my stories is in the next Chicken Soup for the Soul book, "Thanks, Mom" which comes out March 23. Since I've been dealing with a bit o' short term memory loss, I have to ask: Did I tell you this already???

More surgery vibes for DR derBrucer.

Tony Curtis: Some Like It Hot, Sweet Smell of Success, Great Race

Dean Martin: Rio Bravo

BK, take a train ride some place or a ride out in the country and get some new scenery. It will help with the exhaustion. It's helping me.

Can't find DR ELMORE's letter on the EW website, but it doesn't look too easy to navigate....it might be there.

I forgot about TOYS IN THE ATTIC--I like Martin a lot in that one too.

I need to add CAREER to my "Must See" list...

Druxy, I have the film; haven't seen it for awhile (I actually have three different posters of this movie on the wall of my TV room...a Polish, Italian, and American).  My recollection is that Tony is a slave who has been secretly training a hawk.  When his hawk snatches prey from Douglas' hawk, Douglas tries to take tony's Hawk.  Tony has the hawk attack and it takes Douglas' eye out.

That is Curtis' first scene in the "current" version of the movie, but he had another scene earlier, as (I believe) he was getting off one of the boats and he had an exchange with Douglas.

Douglas' first line in the version you have certainly indicates that there was an earlier scene between them.

I have no idea why it was cut.

Now I want to watch Rock and Dorothy and Robert and Lauren......

A faithless lover's kiss is written on the wind
A night of stolen bliss is written on the wind
Just like the tide leaves
Our dreams we've calmly thrown away
Now they've flown away

The promises we made are whispers in the breeze
They echo and they fade just like our memories
Though you are gone from me
We never can really be apart
What's written on the wind
Is written in my heart

Though you are gone from me
We never can really be apart
What's written on the wind
Is written in my heart
