re: the olympics and the 10 000m long track speed skating

Did anybody else see the Dutch skater Sven Kramer get disqualified after winning the race? I didn't see it live. But my heart breaks for him. His coach told him to go to the wrong lane.  To make it worse, they let him finish the race.  I don't get why they didn't blow a whistle or something. To let a racer skate that grueling a race, get a world record and then tell him he's DQed. Wow.

Re: the discussion of the kindle from last night

It's interesting that a bunch of people commented that their bookcases are too full.  And for some here that is why they chose a kindle. And for some they like collecting books so that is why they don't want it. I am in a different situation, since my books come from the library.

Love that cover!  Don't know...the other leg might symbolic of your own personal bizarre quirkiness and sense of humour...walking through life with two left legs.

I hope I'm going to get a chance to blurb...if for no other reason, I'll get to read it before everyone else.

I watched SHE'S WORKING HER WAY THROUGH COLLEGE last night, and rather enjoyed it.

Reagan was very good, as he usually was in light comedies.  I particularly liked his drunk scene.

However, I was most impressed with Gene Nelson and that fantastic dance he did in the gym.  That number was as good as anything Gene Kelly ever did.

It's unfortunate that, with the exception of OKLAHOMA, Nelson never had the opportunity to appear in an "important" musical.

The quality of this Warner Archive transfer is much better than THE DAUGHTER OF ROSIE O'GRADY, but it does have some color correction problems.

Oh...

I'm loving The New York Times' "Lost" Watch.

Do you mean spoilers about the rest of the season or about last night's episode?

I'm heading down to get a jump on watching the Olympics (pun intentional) before anything of a work-nature might happen to get delivered.

Last night's episode with some speculation about future episodes but just guesswork, no certainty.

If nothing comes to review, I'll watch the Olympic skating from last night and the rest of AMERICAN IDOL, but I have to say if the other ladies and the men tonight are as bland and/or mediocre as I heard last night, I won't be watching the rest of this IDOL season.

I don't know what happened but i thought IDOL was terrible last night.

RE: IDOL last night

Even though i didn't care for most of my favorites performances I already have a few favorites.

I like Janell Wheeler (blonde, sang 3rd), Lilly Scott (i thought she was good last night), didi benami (she did kara's song in hollywood), crystal bowersox (she is so different than the usual idol). I also like katie stevens  (young kid who went last).

Folks, I need real estate vibes as always! I spoke to a realtor in Ohio who gave me very good information so I referred him to my brother Randy. On Saturday, I asked Randy if he'd spoken to the realtor (knowing he had) and Randy lied to me! He told me a lot of bull that the realtor certainly never told me! I know he and Macbeth don't want to pay a realtor commission, and the two fools are doing nothing to sell the property so we're once again pissing away money on taxes that would probablt bother me less if I knew that there were inquiries on the damned piece of land.

I'm off to Staples.

Between my family and the betrayal of long-standing friends last week, it's no wonder I'm paranoid!

DR DRUXY I am so glad you enjoyed SHE'S WORKING HER WAY THROUGH COLLEGE - and yes Gene Nelson was a terrific dancer.

I also like his title number with Doris Day in LULLABY OF BROADWAY and with Doris again in TEA FOR TWO.

I am anxious for you to see SHE'S BACK ON BROADWAY.....another terrific Warner Bros musical.....not quite as first class as MGM, but not hoity toity like most of Paramount's musicals.

You can get this former AI contestant's CD on Amazon - used copy for $2 or less.  Check the song titles.....Executive Producer David Foster.

I liked John Stevens on AI a lot - the last season I really watched with any notion of caring who won....if you like the songs, you may like the arrangements and the whole CD.

The only track I don't like - a jazzy MY BLUE HEAVEN....all the others nice "date" or "car" music.

My WB Archive disc of Mamie Van Doren's UNTAMED YOUTH arrived yesterday, and since I am home with a sore throat, I think that might be just the thing to watch today.

ASK BK

Not counting this question: What is the stupidest question you have ever been asked?

There's a good one in the book, but I don't want to spoil it - it was the question that caused me to do something that basically made me realize my acting days were done.

Mamie was only an example of half of that title when she made that movie.

My question for ASK BK day....

If you were visiting someone who had purchased a very ugly painting - what would you say if you were asked what you thought?

Before LOST last night I took in RUGGLES OF RED GAP on TCM.  It was the first time I've seen this movie and I found it absolutely wonderful.  The ending had me shedding tears of joy along with Charles Laughten.

I love it that I can still discover gems like this!

Re the leg - I've mentioned it but I really don't know if it can go without making the photo seem even weirder - tricky.  Once you really look at the bottom of the seat I'm sitting in, you'll see that he's sitting behind me and slightly to the right.
