And now...

Banana Peel Hot Chocolate!

Laters...

Yuck!  ;D

But it was soooo good.  He - Maury Rubin - steeps banana peels in his milk and cream base. The "peel" actually adds a nice "bitter sharp" finish to the hot chocolate, it makes it seem not so sweet.  I'd have to say it was my second favorite flavor of the Festival so far.  -Especially when I used the Banana Peel Hot Chocolate as a "fondue" for my Bourbon-Soaked (Brioche) French Toast.  YUM!

-And, yes, I know, DR Jane - Yuck!  ;)

LOL, It isn't the thought of peel I reacted to, it is the banana flavoring with chocolate.

I suppose if I had to drink the hot chocolate in order to get some bourbon french toast I would ;)

TOD:  The first pizza place in my home town opened the same year I was born and my parents both liked it so I'm sure Woody's Pizza is the first pizza I had.  Pizza was and still is very big in my home town.  At one time we had either 4 or 5 pizza places for a town of about 9,000 people ....and they were all busy!

My first hamburger away from home was probably one of the diners that were around when I was growing up.  I have no memory of it.  I always remember hamburgers.  I remember going to McDonalds when it first opened in Des Moines.  We were there visiting relatives and it was a huge deal.  I don't remember the hamburger just the excitement in the car as we drove there.

I've been busy today.  It started when I decided I would use my stereo more if it was upstairs in my home office/den instead of the inconvenient place where I had it.   So, that led to moving a book shelf from the den to the living room, then moving another book shelf to the spare bedroom, but it didn't look right, so I rearranged all the furniture in the spare bedroom, then I had to move all the books to the book shelves and set up the stereo.  Whew!  Then I did the laundry and cleaned the kitchen.

Oh...

So...

When I got in line at City Bakery, I decided to just some "real food" first for lunch, and then get my Banana Peel Hot Chocolate later so that it would stay warm. So, I picked up a Grilled Ham & Cheese with Apricot Jam, and some stuff from their salad bar - Roasted Cauliflower, Cucumber-Celery Salad & Spinach-Pesto Pasta Salad.  As I was nearing the register, Annie, the assistant manger, came up to me, "I've been told that anything that you would like today is on the house." What? Wow! :)  So...

...After finishing my lunch, I went back down to get my Hot Chocolate and some dessert. By the way, Brendan joined me again on this trip to City Bakery, so I wasn't eating everything by myself. I ordered my Banana Peel Hot Chocolate with the Marshmallow on the side, a slice of the Bourbon French Toast and the Chocolate-Hazelnut Mini-Cake.  Annie placed all the baked goods on the plate, then commented, "Look at all this empty room on here! Are you sure there isn't anything else you would like?" Well... I told her that I might get some cookies on the way out.  So...

As we were leaving, I made sure to check in with Maury one last time to not only Thank him again for treating me to lunch today, but also to Thank him in advance for treating me to lunch (and breakfast and dinner) tomorrow. ;)  He had mentioned that he was going to feature a new flavor tomorrow, and wanted to give a us a preview of it. So, while he was mixing up the magic in the back, Brendan and I waited by the registers.

Annie asked us, "Is there anything else you would like?"  Well... We thought it would be nice to bring back a cookie for Brendan's roommates, so we asked for a cookie.  "Just one? or two? How many roommates do you have?"  Well... How about six?  "That's fine."  So... On the way back uptown, I dropped a cookie off for my friend, Jennifer, who's been locked in her office all weekend working on a project.  Then Brendan and I dropped of two cookies to his two new downstairs neighbors, and then dropped of some cookies for Brendan's roommates.  :)

*And the new flavor tasted quite nice.

I got the figure skating transferred over to DVD-R for the archives. It was nice to see the programs again. Still mystified with the markdowns for Rachael and the overscoring for Miki Ando (though I was very happy Marai overtook her in the final standings.)

If Marai can beef up the content of her programs to include one or two triple-triple jumps, she will be formidable. Her personality simply sparkles on the ice when she turns it on.

Before I headed down, I was reminded that I hadn't seen 2007 world champion Brian Joubert's long program. This was one NBC didn't broadcast for us. Anyway, I found it on-line and watched it. Poor Brian. It was a disastrous program for him; in fact, his entire second Olympics was just a mistep from beginning to end. He'll have to content himself with the bronze he won four years ago.

After finishing with the skating port overs, I put in CUJO on Blu-ray. Some nail-biting tension crowns this movie. The transfer was really seesaw in quality. SOme of it looked really nice; much of it looked dated.
