Quite a few of Alf's recordings are available on CD.

In other news...

I'm having a Twitter-enabled(?) Friday evening.  I won tickets from @carnegiehall to tonight's concert by the Kronos Quartet.

Then after the concert, courtesy of @eat_landmarc, I will be attending Chef Marc Murphy's "Fête de Campagne.

-Needless to say, I will be sleeping in tomorrow.

A new big box store opened nearby called "The Dump". (Not to be confused with what Margaret Mitchell called her house.) I haven't read anything good about it!

DR edisaurus - "The Dump" ("...To the Dump, to the dump, to the Dump, Dump, Dump") is a spin-off of a larger furniture store chain (who's name I can't remember right now).  It's basically where they "dump" their out-of-season and never-sold-in-the-store furniture.  It's sort of like a Sym's for furniture.  Sometimes you can find a deal there. Sometimes you can find some really ugly furniture there. Or both. ;)

Additionally, they are only open three days a week, Friday-Sunday.

I am watching the Michigan/Ohio State game in the Big Ten basketball tournament.  Lots of empty seats there - why didn't we go to Indy this morning?

Regarding the current Newman dynasty:

Randy Newman=Ragtime, The Natural, Awakenings
Thomas Newman=American Beauty, Shawshank Redemption, Little Women
David Newman=Operation Dumbo Drop, Norbit, Scooby Doo

They have all found their niche!

I know Randy's hard at work on Toy Story 3, but I hope he will be given the opportunity to turn out more great scores like AVALON, too.

Additionally:

David Newman -- The War of the Roses, Galaxy Quest, The Phantom
Thomas Newman -- WALL-E, Finding Nemo, Angels in America, Meet Joe Black, The Green Mile, Road to Perdition

Randy Newman -- Cars, Seabiscuit, Monsters Inc, Toy Story I and II

Today my DF-I-L is having a procedure where they're going to zap the heart with electricity; maybe that's like rebooting your computer.

I know someone who recently had this done & all went well.

Bossa Nova was huge in Japan and in fact Sergio largely kept his career alive in his relatively lean US decade of the 1970's by working over there.  Brasil '66 appeared at Expo 70 (there's a live recording available that was never released in the US, due to some pretty lackluster vocals by Karen Philipp--I've joked for years she had too much saki the night before).  Sergio and his collaborator Oscar Castro-Neves also produced a slew of albums by Japanese singers doing Brasilian material.   And Lisa Ono is one of the biggest Japanese stars who currently does a lot of Brasilian stuff.

Thanks for this info. Love bossa nova and will have to check out the Japanese take on this wonderful music.

The Godzila haiku are very funny, DerB!

They were a Woody contribution - I'll pass along your appreciation

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm eating a "healthy" "organic" apple-cinnamon "pastry". <chew, chew, chew... chew, chew...>

I guess you're eating "healthier" than I am:

Brunch = corned beef on rye sandwich. (Made "heaty-healthy(ier) by timming most of the fat from the beef and using low-fat Mayo along with the mustard.)

I had a coonskin hat when I was young.  I have no idea what happened to it.  Every once in awhile I see them for sale in a gift shop.

Sherlock just noticed our pouring rain has turned to snow.  I think he will want to go outside soon after spending the morning avoiding the rain.

From what I've read about The Dump, you can chose furniture and they deliver it. Then it shows up broken and they charge you a hefty fee to restock it if you don't accept it!

I need to be carfeul of can disposal - Fletcher would love to get a hold of it and would probably cut his tongue; he also likes to dump the trash can to check for discarded goodies.
