This is the sort of news I like to hear.

From Playbill Online

Excerpt: Adam Guettel and Craig Lucas' new musical, The Light in the Piazza, will make its Broadway debut at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater in 2005.

The musical, based on Elizabeth Spencer's novella, will arrive at the Beaumont in spring 2005, although no official dates have been announced. The musical has played critically acclaimed runs at both Seattle's Intiman Theatre and, more recently, at Chicago's Goodman Theatre.

Happy Birthday DRSandra!  ;D

Whew!  You come late and all your songs are taken BUT:

Kiss The Girl & Under the Sea - The Little Mermaid
I've Got No Strings - Pinnochio

There are others but those are my FAVORITES!!!!

If Tuesday Weld married the son of Fredric March she would be Tuesday March the Second.

I loved the AUDITION song MR BK!

Well, since I call everybody darlin' at work, well, unless they're taller than me. . . . ;)
Seriously, though.  I call my customers "sir," "ma'am," or whatever they tell me to call them. And very many of them do not take offense if I call them "darlin',"" "cutie," "young man," "young lady," "honey" or whatever form of affectionate greeting may cross my lips.
Now, I also have many customers, whom I am not on a first name basis with, who will come in, give me a great big hug, firm handshake or a great big smooch!  Should I treat them as if they are sexually harassing me?  Do they think that if they buss me, they'll get better service?  I THINK NOT!  (and the smooches have come from both male and female customers; though i hasten to add that tactile as I may be, sometimes it gives me an unexpected jolt to be bear-hugged by many of the male clientele).
Darlin's of HHW, I love you all!  And that's the truth, my sweets!

I personally don't believe in hate speech or hate crimes. As I said, I think words only have the power one choses to give them.  And every crime is a hate crime...I don't care if someone killed you because you were gay, black, they wanted your money, you were screwing their wife, or your dog barked at night.  It's murder, plain and simple.   We have a law for it.   We have a punishment for it.  Who cares what the motive was?
Up until this point, Charles, I was in agreement with you.  However, when it comes to hate speech and hate crime, there is a difference.  The motive of hate crime is to intimidate, and not just the direct victim of the crime but all those who are part of the class the victim is (or too often was) a member.  The individual identity of the victim in a hate crime is unimportant, but the class membership is vital in these cases.

Again, this relates back to my reasons for using words other than hate to describe dislike.  There are so many other words that fit what I want to say in a better fashion.  Similarly, to say that "every crime is a hate crime" is overly simplistic.  Theft, such as shoplifting, is not what I would call a hate crime.  Jaywalking can be considered a crime, but who or what is the object of hate in such a case?  Is smoking in a non-smoking area a hate crime?  Of course not.

Is getting mugged a hate crime?  Not necessarily, and not usually.  The mugger is out for financial gain, with no thought about his victim.  But I have been attacked, and left with a broken nose and shoulder, where the attackers made no demand for money.  They did call me a "g*ddamn mother****ing faggot."

There are people out there in the world who hate, and derive great pleasure from that hate.  And the sooner we get around to realizing that hate is a pleasurable emotion to those who feel it, the sooner we'll start dealing realistically with the problem.

If you're whistled and cat-called at by a construction worker has your psyche really been damaged?

Just the opposite.

Charles I never thought you were minimizing legit harassment and was just teasing a bit, hoping you would pick up on it.  This ruling is absurd and won’t stop true harassment was my point.   I completely agree with everything you said.

Bruce darling, by yesterday’s standards you never harassed me. :)

Sandra & DearReaderLaura, cute birthday pic.

I've had customers touch my hair and tell me "Sweetie/honey/darling/lady/cutie/pumpkin/etc, can you blah blah blah" and so on, but what can you do? Unless they obviously mean it as something more than it is, then you can do nothing but smile and serve your customer to the best of your abilities.

Happy birthday, Sandra! I adore that hat!

Hi and bye, everyone! Happy Days to all.

I finally got STAR! today and watched the first act before putting in the laserdisc and doing a detailed comparison. I have much to say on the subject but feel I must see the entire film to be able to render a decent opinion, so I'll reserve my comments until tomorrow.

Also got SWEENEY and MADAM today and they'll be screened tomorrow as well. A day totally comprised of DVD watching! I think my butt will be sore, but my visual and auditory senses will be SO exhilarated!

Looks like DR Robin will get first crack at seeing the Broadway-bound version of Charity w/Christina Applegate. At least according to Playbill On-Line.

Humm, Dan—so you dance in heels do you?  Well, I might have a GREAT deal for you on 3 pairs of brand new shoes.  Black, Gold and Silver.  The black worn only once.  Interested?    ;)

Sure!  Are they size 12 1/2?

This boy from Oz is listening to the other one! Probably my last listen (it is my first). No matter how much I like Mr Jackman, I can not warm to the material. The OZ production of the show was little more than a cabaret act and does not seem to have improved. The use of the songs seems to be at odds with the biography. I have trouble accepting the songs in a story line.
