Salmon is in the oven and I'm about to add side dishes - fettucini alfredo and sugar snap peas - for our Saturday dinner.

Sounds Delicious

DR Jane i've never heard of anyone making bagels. Are they very hard to make?

Not really.  The difficult part is making them taste good.  Have you baked bread before?

No.

It was, if I do say so myself.  I especially enjoyed the forbidden (for me) wine that we had with it.

Someone on the film music board just posted this lovely thing about the new book:

I received my copy earlier this week, and it has been an absolutely enjoyable read. I blazed through it in two sittings and loved every sentence of it. Mr Kimmel tells us about his years as an actor-director-composer, through the struggles and successes and friendships along the way. It's a side of "Mr Kritzerland" that I think many film score collectors (myself included) don't know about.

It's written in very honest, unpretentious prose, and the passion he has for his craft (acting, writing and film-making) is genuine and palpable. It is filled with joys and triumphs as well as failures and mistakes (one line in which he talks about a particular film music label, "...if I'd invested my $2,500 back in 1978 I would be a millionaire", made me wince and go "Ouch!") I wouldn't hesitate to give this my strongest recommendation to anyone who's interested.

That posting sums you up to a T, bk!  Especially the adjective "unpretentious."  Congrats.

Good evening.  I slept for 3 hours and had a second bottle of gatorade.  I'm feeling much better.  I made some dinner and think I'll postpone further work on anything until tomorrow. I don't want to push it and feel bad again

It is fairly easy.  The hard part is kneading the bread.  Well hard these days, I enjoyed doing it when I was younger & my arms were stronger.

I believe the Gatorade really helps. When we were landscaping the church five years ago during the summer, I couldn't drink enough water or get cool enough. I drank some Gatorade and felt better pretty quickly. Ever since then I have really recommended it.

Okay, here's something that should upset fans of Film Noir:

Yesterday, I watched 2 movies: THE CRIMSON KIMONO and MURDER BY CONTRACT.

The direction for both of them was absolutely terrible.  The scripts were boring and often didn't make sense.

So, why are these two films so revered?

I don't know about MURDER BY CONTRACT, but I really like THE CRIMSON KIMONO, basically because of it's two stars James Shigeta and Glenn Corbett.

Thank you for all of the nice words about my nephew Daniel. He has not yet started chemo as they are still doing various and sundried tests.

And my vibes go out to Jrand's family for that terrible accident and to WFO and Joe and to Elmore for the loss of his friend.

Well back to watching DAIKAJU GAMERA (Giant Monster Gamera), a movie about a giant turtle who makes mincemeat out of Japan.

The movie is enjoyable enough, but one of the lead actresses looks like she is about to fall asleep at any moment...in every scene she is in!

Thanks to DR JENNIFER and DR VIXMOM and DR TCB and DR MBARNUM and all DR's from yesterday and earlier today for their thoughts a prayers.

It is a difficult situation, and right now news is sparse.....but I am sure that my cousin and her family feel the strength of the patented HHW vibes.

Good Evening!

Well...

I ended up having a surprise reunion earlier this afternoon with an old friend and colleague I used to work with down at Catholic University. We had not seen each other in 12 years!  -However, we have one friend in common here in New York City, so we have sort of reconnected that way recently.  The meet-up totally happened by chance and luck - through the unknowing assistance of our mutual friend.  And it was one of those situations where if I had gone with Plan A instead of Plan B we would not have met up today.  In any case...

We were able to spend a good two hours catching up and talking while walking around New York City - the Highline and Chelsea Market.  Needless to say... I needed that. :)

...And coupled with a few other recent reunions I've been having with some other friends I haven't seen in years, it's all beginning to feel a little "Lost"-like to me.

Rack of lamb and roasted vegetables (portobello mushrooms, zucchini and potatoes) are currently being reheated in my oven.  -Leftovers from Wednesday night's restaurant excursion. ;)

I've baked bagels before.  Twice.  They came out well, but they would have been better if I had had the proper high-gluten flower, and a proper-sized kitchen and oven to get them boiled and baked.

However, overall, they were quite easy to make.  At least much easier to make than a proper German-style soft pretzel.
