Re: last night's posts.

I find it rather frightening that the high schools of today are doing musicals like, COMPANY. Not that there is anything obscene or shocking about the material; but I think it is bizare that sixteen thru eighteen year old students have enough life experiences to play those characters.

Of course, when I was in high school, our spring show was GET SMART.

I spent 6 hours yesterday with a pickaxe and shovel, planting tomatoes.

We have a wonderful nursery here with heirloom tomatoes so I hope we have a good crop this year. (Last fall they were all under water!)

Edi, I don't think they grow well under water.

Our house in Marietta is on the National Register, and so is the home of bk's friend Michael Burns. His house is for sale. Wonder if he wants to do a house swap?

Check out the pdf flyer---what a wonderful location and restoration job they did. But maybe they decided to scale down from 500+ acres!

I love the staircase.

DR MBarnum, here's an article with your name all over it!

Umm.. I believe there might be an echo in here... with a delay of about a day or two.  ;)

Spoo!

When I run across something about naked bodybuilders, I immediately think of DR MBarnum. Well, who doesn't?

A lot of things make me think of DR MBarnum.

Even if they gave amnesty to those currently here, it wouldn't stop others from coming after that.

Very true - and that is why any program of immigration reform needs the following elements:

Better border enforcement

Better tracking and enforcement of visitor visas

A relatively counterfiet-proof national ID card

Better regulation of employers, including small businesses and households
A guest worker program

Health care for immigrants

Review and potential modification to current immigration policies that permit extensive extended family migrations

Orderly program to address those undocumented immigrants and their families already here.

Unfortunately, all of these elements interlock:

Implementing them piece meal has little probability of success; joining them together in a "comprehensive" reform program seems politically unattainable (no program is left enough for the liberals nor right enough for the conservatives) - so we seem destined to continue to lurch along the increasingly chaotic path we are on.

der Brucer

Please to note:

Any Democrat that says he will cooperate with the Republicans to find a solution, will lose his nomination; any Republican that says he will cooperate with the Democrats to find a solution will also loose his nomination. So, November will find most candidates running on a platform of noncooperation - not exactly what the Founders intended.

Must read last night's posts.

Did anyone mention how odd it is to watch YouTube and see 16-year-olds who really do get the feeling of IN BUDDY'S EYES?

I'm never sure whether to be impressed at the empathy or sad for the girl.

It seems the choices are to bore the stundents and do "The Boy Friend" or enrage the parents and do RENT.

Just kidding.

It's officially Paul's birthday today, so I met him for coffee and gave him a card.  It's his regular coffee place so i announced it was his birthday and they gave him cake with a candle and sang happy birthday. He was pleasantly surprised.  It was fun

That's nice.  My family are the shy kind or my birthday isn't announced when we go out. :(

This is a video of an elementary student meeting Amazing Grace...the cat who had the nail in her head.  The school kids raised money for her.  She's going to fully recover...she may lose her eye, but it's improving....Jane, you'll like seeing how well she's doing

Amazing Grace looks very good, and I'm impressed how calm she was with the sweet, but slightly loud & excited, little girl.:)

Hats off to the Wicked Witch of the West and Margaret Hamilton

What's the most famous hat in Hollywood history? Charlie Chaplin's bowler? Humphrey Bogart's fedora? Our vote goes to a more singular fashion statement -- the pointy-tipped black chapeau worn by the Wicked Witch of the West in 1939’s “The Wizard of Oz,” a pop-culture artifact that goes on the auction block June 10.

The hat is being sold by Profiles in History, an auction house that expects the bidding to run into the low six digits. Of course, the hat would have been just a movie prop if it hadn’t been for Margaret Hamilton, the actress who nearly stole the movie from Judy Garland and her beloved pooch-pal Toto.

With her green face makeup, pointy nose, talon-like fingers and that cackle -- “I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too” -- Hamilton became one of the most iconic villains in screen history.

Count Drunkula: Boozed-Up Suspect Tells Cops He Drinks Blood, Eats Kidneys

Police in New Russia Township, Ohio, say 21-year-old Andrew Whiteman got drunk, tried to break into a convenience store, then told cops he was a century-old vampire who wanted to drink their blood and eat their kidneys.

The Michigan resident was in town to apply for classes at Oberlin College on April 17, but when police responded to reports of an attempted breaking and entering at a drugstore around 3:19 a.m., they found the suspect covered in mud and reeking of alcohol with slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

Well, with the Library closed these poor folks have nowhere to go.

Sunday afternoon greetings!  We got away from church in time to hear all the pre-race festivities and the start of the Indy 500 on AM radio (just like when I was a kid!).  Stopped close to home to pick up fried chicken and trimmings and got here before the race was 1/4 over.

I did the most unusual thing last evening.  Well, unusual for me.  I watched not one, but two full-length films; both of them made in the Twenty-First Century and both featuring famous actors.

The first film I watched was the remake of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.  I actually enjoyed this film and I think that it might have been more successful if it had not needed to be compared to the original classsic film.  Once I got past not having Michael Rennie lecture the earthlings on nuclear weapons, and not having that spark of feelings betwen Klaatu and Patricia Neal; I thought  it was an okay sci-fi movie. And why did the earthlings get to name the robot, Gort.  That was Klaatu's job.  Keanu Reeves was born to play Klaatu and Jennifer Connelly was suitably earnest in the role of Helen.  Too bad the writers didn't include a scene where Gort was allowed to step on the obnoxious little boy character, Jacob.  it was hard for me to tell if little Jaden Smith inherited any of his father's acting talent, because I was too busy hating the little whiny brat.  Bring back Billy Gray.

The second film I watched stared at in disbelief was a film entitled BURN AFTER READING.  Obviously the Coen brothers meant that, not as the title of their next film project, but rather as a warning to all those involved who picked up the script.
