Jane-

I hope Sherlock's operation was a success and he's back to his normal self real soon.

Thanks.  It should be happening right now.  I won't know anything until around 2:00.  I'll call then to see if I can pick him up on my way home from physical therapy.

This has been a looooong afternoon; as I predicted, the crosstown traffic was a mess because of the bottleneck at 23rd where Fifth Avenue and Broadway intersect. I like Dr Yschouk (pronounced something like "Yashook") and I guess on Aug 17, I'll learn her plan of attack.

May I just say that a certain PR firm in NYC whose name includes the word "Helper" is laughably UN-helpful.

Rob and I are back from a fun outing to Dorothy Lamour Lane Market with my mom and the cousins. We had lunch there - everybody made selections from the deli/salad bar and we ate on the mezzanine.  Then we shopped and took Mom and the cousins back to Otterbein.  I'm ready for a nap.

Oh, guess what WAS in my email when I returned!

DR Ron can you tell me which episode follows Butterflies?

Yes...it was called "Harmony" and it's about patients in the town's mental hospital.  It's really quite interesting.

Has anybody here seen this new show on A&E called THE GLADES. I think it premiered 2 weeks ago and they replay it throughout the week (it's on on sundays). I didn't think I would like it. But there was a big write-up about it in our tv guide. And I actually really like it!

We haven't seen it.  I set up four episodes to record.  They are basically out of order with the Pilot on Aug. 8th.  Should I wait and watch them in order?

I've only seen the first 2 episodes. The 3rd one was on last night.  I think you should watch them in order. Because they explain things. And then there are some personal relationships that start in the first episode that continue in the second episode.  And I don't think they'd make proper sense if you watched them out of order.

I think it depends on if you like the lead guy (i really like him). He's a policeman, so there are cases to solve.

At least you don't have a book full of lines to learn.....

I should have, but I didn't do the show.  And the director has not spoken to me since.

The heat wave seems to have broken, at least for the next few days. It's nice enough that I actually rode the exercise bike this evening for 45 minutes! I haven't done that for about 2 weeks.

TOD:

A subject I'm very familiar with.
My weight gain began as a child when I was put on prednisone for allergies/asthma.  When I was 10, I was a puffy little guy:

By the time I was ready to graduate high school, I clocked in at 325 lbs and a 50" waist:

(Flowing graduation gowns do tend to hide the flaws somewhat).

Between graduating high school and starting college, I went on The (original) Atkins Diet.  My waist went from 50" to 32":

After that, I let nature take its course and stayed between 36" and 38" in the waistline, and now I can wear either a tailored 38" pants, or a more comfortable 40" pants.
This picture, from THE SECRET GARDEN, is one of my favorites; I think it was the last time I wore a size 36". . .
