On the other hand, I have a great fondness for films I saw as a "youth" that were not, at that time, or now, highly regarded.

Chief among those, I suppose, is "The Egyptian" which staggers me by its scope, its attention to authenticity, its production values, its glorious cinematography and, most of all, it's magnificent "joint" score by Alfred Newman and Bernard Herrmann.  And I'm quite partial to various cast members including Michael Wilding as the pharaoh whose final monologue in the film is heartbreakingly beautiful.

I also love THE EGYPTIAN, which I was fortunate enough to see on the big screen at a revival house here in PDX some years ago.  (The theater owner had actually hired me to play his wedding, where he and his fiancee had all movie music.  He entered down the aisle to the James Bond Theme.  No, really. ;))  I hope this sees the BD light of day sooner rather than later.

BK, I agree with you regarding CRACK IN THE WORLD. I saw it when I was a kid and thought it was rather dull.  But it certainly seems to be considered a classic amongst science fiction fans.

The poster is kind of cool, however.

I'm up - finally got a good night's sleep - nine hours - I was out like a light at eleven-thirty last night, right after writing the notes.  I probably would have slept later save for the garbage trucks doing their thing relentlessly this morning - until I got up - at which point they were gone.  I did have some fun dreams, but the last dream just before I woke up was a little odd - had to do with someone in the book who didn't want me to use their name and who, in the dream, was telling me we were done.  Considering that we've been done for decades I found it a curious thing to say.  But the conversation about using the names was almost identical to the real-life conversation that took place just after I'd finished the book.  It was amusing on some level.

My dreams last night involved pulling weeds in my back yard.

What do Christine Jorgensen, Joan Bennett and Frances Farmer have in common?

Christine Jorgensen had a sex change

Frances Farmer had a brain change

And Joan Bennett....ummm...went through "Change of Life"?

I don't think that Joan Bennett went through a "change," but her lover (Jennings Lang) certainly did when her husband (Walter Wanger) shot him in the you-know-where.

Just had an e-mail from paypal - the first eCheck I've ever had a problem with - whoever sent it (and it was a big order), their bank denied the payment and paypal cancelled it and advised me not to ship - since it included the new London Promises, I obviously haven't.  I've tried to e-mail the guy several times and the e-mails bounce back as undeliverable - non-existent e-mail address.  And yet his shipping address reads as "confirmed" by paypal, which means he's done business with them before.  My third e-mail just bounced back, so I'm afraid this gentleman will miss out on the London Promises - I'm sure I'll get some e-mail three or four weeks from now demanding to know where his stuff is, but by then it will be too late.

Just had a very nice e-mail forwarded to me from Joe Sutton, the guy who did the interview with me yesterday:

I must tell you, my interview/conversation with Bruce was one
of the easiest, pleasant and most enjoyable of my career.
Thank you, Joe Sutton.

I thought CRACK IN THE WORLD was pretty much a disappointment the way THE DAY THE EARTH CAUGHT FIRE was.....except the cast in FIRE was much sexier.

found this LP today for only 69 cents.

But I switched it out for this record....by Edmundo Ros since a CHA CHA opens Side Two....and the music will be played on a practical stereo.....  fingers crossed.

Well actually both of the LP's were 69 cents each.....but the Perez Prado cover will look better onstage....

And they both sound pretty good!
