It's not a Jerry Herman show without the mention of Ginger and Lime

DR Ron:

Again, this is my reaction. It's a lovely song but I can't help myself. I don't expect anyone who loves the song to stop loving it or singing it, even if they do it in Yiddish. Just don't expect me to sing along, that's all... :)

Boy, DR Elan! You vanish for how many years, then come back and cause nothing but trouble. You're my kinda guy! :D

It's another day of nothing but rescheduling. I had to replace one of my singers this week, then I had another one get a tour of CHICAGO that takes him out of town during most of the recording so I had to reassign half of his numbers. Aaron Lazar is taking over those songs. I thought he was wonderful in A TALE OF TWO CITIES. I didn't see him as Carl-Magnus in the latest round of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC.

So, Aaron is scheduled, and I'm working on the contact list for the ensemble singers now.

Best songs:

"Lullaby of Broadway"
"The Way You Look Tonight"
"Over the Rainbow"
"Secret Love"
"Sooner or Later"

Worst songs:
"Que Sera Sera" (over "True Love"?!)
"Talk to the Animals"
"You Light Up My Life" (the worst mistake of all because Theme from "New York, New York" wasn't even nominated)
"It Goes Like It Goes" (over "The Rainbow Connection"?!)
"My Heart Will Go On" (over "Journey to the Past"?!)
"Into the West" (over "The Triplettes of Bellville")

Sound check was fine - our tech guy is scatterbrained and one mic was giving him problems - it seemed to be fine by the end of it and we'll just hope for the best.

Interesting question about the Best Song Oscar.  I wax nostalgic in my review for "8 Mile" (which will go live one of these years, LOL) about the last time I loved all 5 of the Best Song nominees--1970 (for film year 1969).  Yes, I'm sure some of you weren't even born yet, in which case you can kiss my ASS.  :)
I was alive back then but wouldn't say that 1970 had the best fives songs ever nominated.

For Al We Know (Lovers And Other Strangers), Pieces of Dreams (Pieces Of Dreams), Thank You Very Much (Scrooge), Till Love Touches Your Life (Madron), Whistling Away The Dark (Darling Lili)

Madron is a film I've never seen and don't know how the song wks in the film. I think there were other songs that were better.

Three songs that were eligible but didn't make the final cut
"EVERYBODY WANTS TO BE A CAT" - The Aristocats -
"LET IT BE" - Let It Be
"SUICIDE IS PAINLESS" - M*A*S*H -

While my hiking group goes on my favorite hike I have to go to a meeting to learn how to inject myself. :(

That sounds serious, DR Jane, and NOT fun.

I only injected a rubber ball today since I'm not ready to begin the drug yet.  The possible early side effects, which should ease with time, include nausea & dizziness.  I'm going to wait until it is more convenient for me to deal with that.  I'm planning a trip to Chicago in October & will begin after I return.

While the woman who ran the program works for Lilly, the makers of Forteo, she obviously believes in the drug and was very engaging.  She wants to take it but hasn't been approved yet because she hasn't broken any bones.  Kind of a catch 22.  She said Lilly offered her the job of educating people (only those about to begin, or already using Forteo) a couple of times and turned them down.  The drug was too new and she needed to know more about it.  I like that she had to have confidence in it.

We eat the body
the body of Satan

* White Christmas: Sorry; as an Orthodox Jew, I can't help shouting at the speakers whenever this song comes on: Really, Irving? "Just like the ones you used to know" where, exactly? Back in the shtetl?

I called AT&T because my home phone bill for the last two months has been topping one hundred dollars and in this day and age I just can't believe that's possible with so many alternatives.  It turns out my "plan" is from 2004 and is completely antiquated by just about every standard.  When she got through bringing it up to date, I will now not be paying anything over fifty bucks and that includes unlimited out of state calls.  Quite a difference I'd say - and they're giving me a sixty dollar credit for this last bill, so from now on it will be much nicer.  She told me I should call at least once a year to check and see if my plan is the best for me.

"CLOSER" SPOILER -  AND REQUEST FOR SPOILER RE "THE CLOSER"

So with the lead character having basically murdered that man in the final scene, is there any indication that there will be punishment for what she did?  (I found that episode - and that ending -  extremely hard to take.)
