Well, my work place found the "leak" in the software that prohibits us from visiting all web sites categorized as "entertaingment" or "social networking"....grrrrrr. So, I made it a point to sit down at the computer at home this morning before heading off. I must do this more often because I sooooo miss reading the notes every day. Anyway, "Lost in Boston" was simply wonderful last night! I just LOVE Alet Taylor and Jason Graae. I could watch them all day. The songs were all really terrific too - lots of story songs (or I guess they're called "plot songs," which I just learned last night) and those are Mark's favorite kind, and I love them too.

DR DRUXY - I enjoyed your book very much......the personal family stories were most interesting & entertaining....and the stories of your work were also....

I shall have to do some thinking before I do my AMAZON review, but I will do it Sunday or Monday.

I especially liked the story of how your parents met, the boxing contract story, and all of the DALLAS stories.  Your beginning in the publicity biz was very enterprising!

Mr Glenn Hughes was of course a friend of Frances Farmer and appeared on her episode of THIS IS YOUR LIFE......did he ever mention her while you were there - or was she persona non grata at UW?

And no mention of my favorite columnist of the time.....Rona Barrett.....

Happy birthday, Ron!

Another observation about last night: I don't know what it is about L.A., but Mark and I seem to run into Gary Stockdale every where we go. It doesn't matter if it's a musical theater event like LIB or a Brian Wilson rock concert, but he's always there. And it's always great to see him. I wish he'd sing live more - he has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

Thursday morning greetings!  My horoscope in today's Cincinnati Enquirer starts, "Last month matured you..."

So that's what that was  ::)

Thanks.  I'm very pleased that you enjoyed it.

I don't think that the boxing story has ever been told before.  I only learned about it a few years ago.  It's amazing what you learn about your parents after they're gone.

Glenn Hughes was really on the way out when I was at the UW.  I never really got close to him, and I don't recall Frances Farmer ever being mentioned.

On the other hand, one of my high school Drama teachers (Joe Steele-Shaw) was always mentioning her, but at that point in my life, I really wasn't that familiar with her work, so it didn't make that big of an impression.  It was after college that I "discovered" her.

I never had many dealings with Rona.  I tried to avoid the columnists who "hurt" people.

As you may know, Betty Grable did not know she was dying until she heard it on Rona's broadcast.

Again, thanks for the nice words.

Larry, I'm going to check out the Joan Morris CD when I go home for lunch. If it plays on our CD player I'll download the last 4 tracks and e-mail them to you today. If they don't play, as Anthony said, he'll make another CD.

I thought I'd put through my amazon order for Druxy's book - but I was not charged for it and got no Amazon confirmation e-mail -

so it is ordered and (as Jrand might quip) I will go sit by the mailbox and wait for it to arrive.

Good morning, all!

My deepest thanks for my birthday greetings to BK, Ben, Laura, Druxy, td, JohnG, Kerry, Sam, ArnoldMBrockman, Dan (The Man), FJL, Jennifer, "Elmo", Jrand60, Amy and Ginny.

Jennifer:  My co-workers are taking me to lunch at "Asena", the eastern Mediterranean restaurant in nearby Alameda.  These are the people who catered my boss' retirement luncheon back in March.  I LOVE THIS PLACE!  It should be a wonderful meal.

I'm taking tomorrow off to give myself a 4-day weekend.[/b]

Happy Birthday Ron!

Congrats, Bruce & Co. on your rousing success! I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Pamela Myers over a decade ago, and she was as absolutely charming as one could wish for (if a bit creeped out by the fawning 20-year-old with a Company LP that was older than he).

TOD:
I'm taking the TOD to mean "favorite songs that were IN a well-known show but aren't well-known." With that in mind, here goes (in no particular order at all, and an extremely incomplete list):

"Marry the Man Today" from Guys and Dolls
"Try Me" from She Loves Me
"Will I?" from Rent
"Children and Art" from Sunday in the Park (The waterworks start every time Marie sings "Mama is everywhere/he must have loved her so much")
"Now I Have Everything" from Fiddler
"All You Have to do is Wait" from City of Angels
"Lament" from Into the Woods

"Ilona" from SHE LOVES ME

I'm up and at least an hour before I should be - so five hours of sleep, I guess, unless I can get some later.

TOD:

My favorite obscure musical number is BOOGIE WOOGIE BOOGYMAN from the 1944 film MURDER IN THE BLUE ROOM.

"There's a ghost in Tin Pan Alley, walkin' on the piano keys. He's a jivin ghost, who can make the most, of his rhythmic tendencies..."

I recently sent this movie to BK, and am eager to know what he thinks of the film and this song, once he has a chance to view it.

I've got to get serious about casting the next show - only two people, but one I'd like to be a newcomer so I'm just trying to meet people and get recommendations - there was one gal who was perfect, but Mr. Barry Pearl (who was at the Gardenia last night) snapped her up for Happy Days, the Musical.

Now, where is that accordion....

The laundry is finished, I've spoken to the Mighty Rob Berman and the Naked Hercules Zak Stains via telephone, vacuumed and mopped the floors, sent importanyt emails, and bathed. Now it's time to actually accomplish some work.

I need a nap.

DR Ginny, I really didn't think you needed a maturing experience, but clearly there are superior powers who decided I was wrong.

Thank you, DR Elmore.  Maybe it was my diet and exercise habits that needed maturing...
