OPEN SESAME

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were open and had a slight sesame flavor, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently saying "Open sesaMOO."

WOW!  Even on the samples, the difference between the original (even fixed up) mix and the Kimmel special on disc 2 is amazing!  The original sounded like it was recorded in a tunnel and the new version sounds like it was recorded in an actual recording studio.  You can also hear a lot more of Tony Roberts' vocalizing during the dance break of "Beauty That Drives Men Mad."  I can't wait to hear the entire album! ;D

Amazing, isn't it - the new mix sounds incredible, especially when you A/B it - it was thrilling to do.

The weather here in the last 3 days has gotten much colder. It's odd to me because last week it was 40C humidex. And now today it is like 18C. Brrrrrr.

Another A+ vote for last night's MAD MEN....whew!  And for the return of Jay Ferguson as Stan Rizzo, at least I think that was him tormenting Peggy near the end of the show.

Good morning, all! I sept later than i intended, but I have one last day of freedom before I'm back to the grind and I am enjoying myself. I had another repeating dream last night but it's now lost to wherever dreams go.

Today I'll see if one of the music dealer sites I've been using as a pricing guide is no longer freezing so I can finish pricing the Wagner and Shostakovich editions for the McGlinnventory. If the site is good, i'll finish my price list and work on my Herbert reports. I missed a couple of topics last night so I'll catch up now:

Favorite Disney is ALICE IN WONDERLAND/

Happy 90th Birthday tomorrow to the father of DR FJL!

Screwball comedies? Outside of MY MAN GODFREY, I can't think of any at the moment.

Shostakovich sounds like a Russian swear word, I have always thought.

Monday morning greetings!  Yesterday's trip to Lima must have been more tiring than I realized, because I slept until after 9 this morning.  Takin' it easy today to be rested up for tomorrow's grantwriters' meetings - the scene of the "crime," so to speak...

When I was a kid, I remember stumbling across Ted Sennett's wonderful book on screwball comedies called "Lunatics and Lovers." It was in the day before VHS and cable, so I did my best to find somebody screening each and every movie I remember being mentioned in the book. I dragged my parents out to park amphitheaters for free showings of "Bluebeard's Eighth Wife" and to open film classes for "Nothing Sacred" or "Bringing Up Baby." Then a revival movie house opened near our home and it began showing some of the greats that never played TV.

I still love seeing the old ones and have found many of the modern attempts to recapture that charm to be bloated messes ("What's Up Doc?" is the only exception I can think of).

I don't recall seeing many that I didn't like, so favorites among favorites would have to include:

The Thin Man (William Powell was my favorite among the leading men of screwball comedy)
Libeled Lady
Joy of Living
My Man Godfrey
Twentieth Century (Carole Lombard was a genius)
The Lady Eve
It Happened One Night

It was DS Zach's birthday yesterday, so I was E&T.

My sister emailed me asking if I had our parents' marriage certificate, as she was applying for British citizenship (our Dad was born in England).  I told her I didn't, but asked her what was going on, and she is contemplating moving back there (she lived outside of London for many years) if the US continues its wave toward radical conservatism.  DW Wife Betsy wants us to go, too.  ;)

There are now two (count 'em) houses in our new(ish) neighborhood listed for $1 million.  And they are smaller than this house.

Channel 13 showed "Bringing Up Baby" about three weeks ago, and I found Katharine Hepburn so annoying that, once she drove off in Cary Grant's car, I got pissed at him for letting an insane, thoroughly obnoxious person walk all over him and I turned it off. I never care to see the remainder.

Which is funnier department:  That fact that Percy Faith had a drug-inspired nickname for one of his albums, or the fact that the guy who runs a Faith website told me not to spread it around.  Yes, I'm quite sure that there are millions (nay, trillions) of people who would be shocked by this fact.   ::)

I feel the same way about her character in that film.
