DR Jane, to get to work from my new apartment I only have to walk through a big park and over the railroad tracks.

That should be safe enough.

I hope you are kidding, MBarnum.  That doesn't sound safe at all.

Had to have some Cole Porter this morning, so I've got "Leave It to Me!" blasting out of the speakers. Love this score, even if the recording from 42nd St. Moon has only a small band instead of a full orchestra. His "Tomorrow" is like musical caffeine to me, and "Most Gentlemen Don't Like Love" always makes me smile.

I think I have work on that recording

If you do, you aren't mentioned in the liner notes. But that doesn't mean anything these days, I'm sure.

One-Eyed Jacks has arrived! ;D I'll listen to it right after I finish Make Me a Song, that I got in Seattle.

<POOF>  You're a song!

Thanks...I needed that. :-*

I have a lot of friends who have lost tree limbs and even windows from the gale force winds. Thankfully, I've stayed dry so far. Hope you have, too.

It is positively weird not having the kids around.  Plus, with Zach in middle school now, Gabe actually will get home first--and he's not even due for another half hour.

Home from a very long day in Dayton - I'm so glad I let Richard drive me, because I was pretty wiped out after 2 long meetings.  DS Rob arrived home while we were gone from his camping weekend in Michigan and has opted for pizza for his birthday dinner.

Thanks to DRs Ron, Laura, Jennifer, Jose, TCB, Jane, and Elmore for the birthday wishes for him!

The "Google dots" reminds me of that prank software you could install on a Mac (I don't think there was ever a PC version, but maybe there was), where the cursor arrow would move AWAY from you as you scrolled the mouse toward it.  :)

I stopped walking to work...partly because I am lazy and partly because we had two stabbings one morning last week on one of the street that I walk on to get to work...less then a half mile from my house.

...some kids (16 year olds) stabbed an elderly man who was out collecting cans at 6 am, killing him, and then they drove up the street and stabbed a guy who was walking to work (who turned out to be a clerk at a store that I shop at...as I found out this weekend). He survived, but his arm right arm (which he used to protect himself) is a mess of stitches.

It seems it was random acts of violence on the part of these hooligans, and thankfully they have been caught, but very scary to have something like this happen in Salem.

Mike, I am so sorry to hear about the elderly man.  Had you two been dating long?

LOL!

DR Cillaliz, nice pics of the dishes.

Reading your post about losing weight reminded me about exercising in the winter.  There are like 4 months for sure when I will not be able to exercise outside. And I"m starting to freak out. Yesterday was raining and I could not bike. And I realized how much I hate indoor excercising.

Since my back is still not 100% I'm having a hard time hooping. I started doing it again a few days ago. And I can hip hoop. But I still can't hoop around my waist for more than 5 minutes at a time (it makes my back sore).

I guess I could try to do 2 X 10 minutes of hooping a day. And once a week I"m going to try to go swimming.  I used to sometimes read a book on my exercise bike (which was the only way i could tolerate it).  Maybe i could handle 5 minutes a day.

Does anybody have any good indoor exercises?

Drive to the nearest mall and walk all around the inside.

It's funny but I don't consider mall walking exercise.  But I guess I do that once a week anways.

I have seen some people power walking in the mall before it opens.

Yes, the three appendix charts are mine, including "Farming" and "A Lady Needs A Rest." I have no memory of doing the third one.

Back from a lot of stuff.  Once again, I pull out the Unsung Musicals box and there is not ONE piano/vocal chart - this seems to be a recurring theme with elmore's early work - I have all the orchestra charts and not ONE piano/vocal - funny, I have complete piano/vocals for Unsung 2 and 3.  Go know.

Then I stopped into an optician quite near Trader Joe's, just to look at some frames and because in the two years since my last pair of glasses my prescription is completely different - nothing about my glasses worked.  So, I ended up getting a new exam from a very good lady doctor, then found two frames I like and am getting my first pair of progressive lenses, which they assure me I'll love.  Progressive lenses have gotten quite sophisticated in the last few years, and I'm getting the latest technology.  It's pretty expensive, these lenses, but, you know, if it makes me see well it will be worth it.
