Maybe one of these days I'll invent floop ice cream.

I wish you wouldn't.

Laura the beautiful photos (only sent two) were much appreciated.  I know I should take my camera more, thing is a camera slows you down.  My purpose is to hike, keep moving and to get my heart rate up. :)  As it is I don't go as fast as I would like, or as far.

A camera doesn't slow you down if you wear it around your neck; and provided it isn't some big heavy sucker.

Back from some errands and whatnot and some lunch at Hugo's - today Pasta Mama instead of Papa, and my small Caesar.  I'll jog in a couple of hours.

So, when you consider that McGlinn's apartment walls were filled with scores of this value, hundreds of thousands of dollars, and he died in complete poverty with no electric power in his apartment, what the hell?

How very sad.  I didn't realize that.

I expect every day to get the phone call "I'm writing a book about John McGlinn . . ."

I wear a belt and loop the camera on that.  What slows me down is stopping to take photos. :)

Good Evening!

Well...

I played some auditions this afternoon...

And after said auditions, I just have two comments:

1) STOP YELLING!!!!!

2) Sometimes even 16 bars is 18 bars too long.

Ginny did you like the Edith Wharton books you read with your group?  I'm thinking of reading ETHAN FROME.

Input from any DR will be appreciated.

Has anyone read THE THIRTEENTH TALE by Diane Setterfield?  It looks intriguing and keeps popping up as a book to read for discussion.

DR Jane - I liked the Wharton books, but many in my group did not.  I have not read ETHAN FROME, but my DS Rob would tell you to stay far, far away.  He had to read it in high school and hated it.

Thanks for the feedback.  I won't pick the book.  Does your DS Rob also dislike Jane Austin?  I've read comparisons between the two authors.  Do you agree there is one?

ETHAN FROME seems to be a popular book at the library.  At sometime in the future I will read one of her books.

Well, they're at least 2 generations apart, one British and one American.  But they do both write about social mores, so maybe there's a similarity.  On the Barnes & Noble author site, where they suggest "If you like this author you might like..."  Austen does not lead to Wharton, nor vice versa.

George-

Anything Happening with SP??

Yes!  I am ready to burn however many discs people want, but my sister's boyfriend, Larry, is making a DVD (on a dual-layer DVD-R) that is automatically widescreen, for widescreen TVs.  If this widescreen DVD is played on a regular TV, however, the image will be all squished together.  So, I need to ask that those who wanted South Pacific to let me know which version you want.  The anamorphic (but still standard def) widescreen version for widescreen TVs, or the regular standard-def version that has the black bars on the top and bottom so that the widescreen image is not squished on regular TVs.

Also, if anyone wants BOTH South Pacific and TCB's episode of "High School Stories," let me know so that I can send them both at the same time.  I think that only a couple of people have said that they want both (which is fine), but if anyone still wants a copy of either (or both), it's not too late to let me know. :)

I hope that that all makes sense.

Wharton's New York-based novels may be more like austen, but I think of Ms Wharton as  writer with neither humor nor irony. ETHAN FROM is all about repression and unhappiness and a tragic love triangle. The late great Jane certaily knows tragedy, but I'd rather read the tragicomedy PERSUASION. maybe my favorite novel ever, any day over ETHAN FROM.

Lucky you, Jennifer. I wish we could get some rain here.

Not lucky for me because I couldn't go on my bike. I'd like to be able to go everyday before it gets too cold.

Well, folks, I'm calling it a night because I have to be up early tomorrow.  Have to be at our local hospital before 8:30am to have the ultrasound on my legs that they were unable to do in the hospital.  They tried to do it right after my procedure, when I still had cath leads in both femoral arteries and the pressure made me almost pass out.  With all the blood thinning medication I'm taking, I doubt there's a blood clot anywhere, but the doctors want to make sure.

If the USPS website is to be believed, I will be a Kindle owner when I get home!

'night!

U.S. District Judge Strikes Down Military Ban on Gays

A federal judge in Southern California declared the U.S.
military's ban on openly gay service members unconstitutional
because it violates the First Amendment rights of gay and
lesbians.

U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips granted a request for
an injunction halting the government's ''don't ask, don't
tell'' policy for gays in the military.

But government lawyers argued Phillips lacked the authority
to issue a nationwide injunction and the issue should be
decided by Congress.
