That's worthy of a dance of some kind.

Cillaliz, that backsplash is beautiful. It really makes a big difference in a kitchen, I think.

Thanks MBarnum.  Tonight I grouted until I ran out of grout and could grout no more.  This photo is before it sets and there is a light film on it that I will clean off tomorrow.  There is very little left to grout.  I'll finish it tomorrow

Cilla, is your pattern purely random?

Well it came in sheets of 14 x 14 tiles, but the sheets weren't the same...so I'd have to answer "yes"

I do have to say if I was being filmed for HGTV, Vern Yip would have ripped me a new one.  My technique is far from top notch, but for my first attempt at tiling, I'm really proud of what I've done.  It does take patience, but when I'm saving as much money as I am by doing it myself, I can be very patient

So, when you consider that McGlinn's apartment walls were filled with scores of this value, hundreds of thousands of dollars, and he died in complete poverty with no electric power in his apartment, what the hell?

How very sad.  I didn't realize that.
Extremely sad.

TOD: I love any of kind of ice cream I can get my hands -- and mouth -- on. That said, a really fine homemade peach ice cream is the best.

I have one of those dual ice cream makers, so you can make two types at once. I'm rarely that greedy, though. Last year, my favorite flavor was ginger-candied bacon. Also fond of sour cream ice cream atop blueberry pie.

And speaking of bacon...... you were weren't you John G.?........ The assortment of doughnuts that my co-workers brought from VooDoo Doughnuts (in Portland, Oregon), included maple bars with bacon on top.  I was too full after eating half of a Memphis Mafia to try one; but the poeple who ate them raved about the combination.
Save me one, will ya?

Ginny did you like the Edith Wharton books you read with your group?  I'm thinking of reading ETHAN FROME.

Input from any DR will be appreciated.

Ethan Frome is better read when you want to read than being forced to read it for a class. It's slim and a sad view of a hard life. "Summer" is also a good, short Wharton read. My fave is "Age of Innocence," a slyly caustic tale of fury and not enough sound that has some ugly laughs in it.

DR Jane - I liked the Wharton books, but many in my group did not.  I have not read ETHAN FROME, but my DS Rob would tell you to stay far, far away.  He had to read it in high school and hated it.

I posted my last note without seeing this from Ginny. I hated most everything I had to read for a class.

By the way, "House of Mirth" is also wonderful. "Glimpses of the Moon," her short stories ... I've liked most everything of hers that I've picked up, except for "The Children." Just couldn't get into that one and I tried a half-dozen times.

Thanks for the feedback.  I won't pick the book.  Does your DS Rob also dislike Jane Austin?  I've read comparisons between the two authors.  Do you agree there is one?
I don't think there's much comparison. Austen was a great social commentator, as was Wharton, but the ways in which they went about their stories was completely different. Austen is effervescent, her comments can be pointed but rarely deadly, and love reigns fairly supreme. Wharton is all deadly. Ugly things happen to her characters, including death or being mummified by society. Love is never easy and never helpful in finding the right answer.

Both are well worth reading.

Cillaliz: I share your grout pain. I once installed tile in half of my house (when I lived in Florida). I thought the grout work would never end.

In the meantime, I've been cleaning, doing laundry, watching TV, napping (I think), folding laundry and packing for my trip to Atlanta in the morning.  Sorry if I've been sitting here like so much fish.
