THE ELEVATOR - Does it give the audience a lift?  Or just the shaft?

I have always liked the saying that Parents give their children two great gifts---one is roots, the other is wings.

but the wings part is HARD!

I'm a screenwriter again.

 ;D

I haven't written in the screenplay format for 3-4 years.  Just books and plays.

A couple of months ago, a fellow who'd read one of my books called me "out of the blue," and now he has hired me (and paid a nice advance) to write a screenplay based on his original concept.

I can't talk about the subject matter, except to say that the script will be an action-thriller about a very disturbing topical subject.

Now, where did I put my Final Draft file...?

 ::)

Great news and good luck, Druxy!

My favorite Chinese place, the Silk Road Palace, has been closed all week. It's most unseemly. I do hope it hasn't been discovered that they're serving vermin in place of chicken, beef or pork! I alsp hope there's been no tragedy. No one seems to know anything.

DR elmore - According to some of the food blogs, as well as Yelp! and Chowhound, Silk Road Palace has closed. Even the phone has been disconnected.  Sorry.  -I guess they gave out too much free wine.

There is loud talking outside the home environment.  Rowdy people.  I've been fighting something all week - mostly, I think, due to not getting enough sleep.  I'm tempted to go to Jerry's and bring back some chicken soup.  Had some yesterday and it always helps.  I don't have any NyQuil - if I did I'd take it just to get a good night's sleep.  I've been sucking on Ricola's.  I'm still full from my small Caesar salad and my pasta papa, which was huge today.

And I never had time to jog.  The reaction to Sadismo is really good - people love it.  Hoping the Exotica collectors will discover it.

And speaking of food...

My day started off at The New York Times Building for the Times Talk "Iron Chef America: Behind the Scenes". The three Iron Chefs in attendance were Bobby Flay, Jose Garces and Masaharu Morimoto, and Kim Severson was the moderator.  It was another great panel, and there were lots of laughs amid some of the not-so-shocking behind the scenes revelations.

They broadcast the Talk live, but it should be on the Times Talks website soon too.

I didn't feel like I had enough energy to bike today. So I didn't. Sort of discouraging, since 2 days this week already were complete rain outs.

It's been raining off and on today, but now it's on...and has been for quite a while.

I like the rain. :)

Trisha Yearwood's Cooking Demo ended up consisting of her making a 6-Layer Carrot Cake while she answered questions from the audience.  It turned out to be a more entertaining session than I expected.  It was great hearing about how she truly tries to balance the demands of her career with her family life.  Alas, there were no samples of the 6-Layer Carrot Cake given out due to legal issues (food allergies, etc.), but she did tell us that her husband, fellow country star, Garth Brooks, likes to put tortellini in everything. Including breakfast. ;)

After the cooking demo, I just ended up walking around the Meatpacking District taking advantage of some of the free events and activities and samples(!) at the New York City Wine & Food Festvial.

First up, was the Cooking Channel Truck which was giving out free samples of ice cream from Max & Mina's: Chocolate-Covered Challah and Balsamic Glazed Strawberry.

And then I somehow ended up hanging out with Guy Fieri for a few minutes as a group of us tried to help a guy who had passed out cold from too much beer in the Biergarten on the sidewalk in front of The Standard Hotel. After that whole situation more or less resolved itself, well...
