Re:  Mourning Becomes Electra.  I also watched yesterday--for about 3 minutes.  :)  My assumption is that director Dudley Nichols was still in shock from having had to deal with Frances on Toast of New York.  ;)

Our new Leaf Filter gutter screens are getting installed today (it will probably take two days).  Extremely expensive, but there's simply no way I can keep the gutters clean at this four story house.

I suffered through Highlander last night, which I must review this week.  I still have Highlander 2 to suffer through.  :)

I watched this all the way through.  I think it better than the critiques of the day.  Michael Redgrave is particularly great.  I now have to watch a five-hour version of the play I have with Joan Hackett, Bruce Davison, and Roberta Maxwell.

Frances would have been a great Vinnie.

I guess Nancy Coleman who played Hazel was a college chum of Frances' - she was in the class ahead of Frances who then got ALL of the leading roles that Nancy had been getting.....so there was some animosity there.

I am thinking the play version may be great......Russell just seemed too old to me, and of course with her as Lavinia, they had to cast the mother older....and Paxinou made the LOVE story between her and Leo Genn and bit ludicrous.....which may have been the point.

And, to put it politely, Paxinou was not in any sense of the word, attractive.

But what's the point of SHENANDOAH........I assume it's in the original, but it seems anachronistic to the setting.

I agree that Michael Redgrave was very good.....but the neighbors and Seth giving the exposition at the beginning.....whew!

I am pretty sure I posted a link to the former owner's Picasa gallery of the house when he had it listed, but here is the front:

The Leaf Filter people now tell me they can't install the product without replacing all of the gutters.  I think not.

Beautiful house, DR JMK! Love the trees. It looks very Pacific Northwest-like.

BK, I am very, very happy to hear of a new Guy Haines album in the works. I listen to his first album quite often.

Wonderful news about Mr Guy Haines.....and the new album.

There are two songs I would like to hear Mr Guy Haines sing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e3gk7e0Cq4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORr-4tKQolc

Since....he doesn't want to record this......

DR JRand - You mean you don't want Guy Haines to record "Ciribiribin"?

I saw MOURNING BECOMES ELECTRA about a year ago and I did like it but I didn't love it.  I thought Kirk Douglas was the weak link in the film but Katina Paxinou is also a bit of a horse pill to swallow.

As I mentioned yesterday, I attended City Harvest's Bid Against Hunger last night. I ate. I drank. I took pictures. I schmoozed. Heck, I even ended up blogging about it for The Amateur Gourmet.

Here's Part 1. And here's Part 2

ASK BK

The Sound of Music was my first "Road Show Engagement" what was yours?

I was talking about that the other day - either Ben-Hur or Windjammer or the 1959 reissue of Seven Wonders of the World in Cinerama.

Last night I watch DESIGN FOR LIVING on TCM which I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.  The only thing I didn't like was how the sex stuff was handled in such a forced and leering manner by the cast.

I'm up, barely.  The helper should be here any minute now.  Keep the suggestions coming and links to hearing the songs are always good.

Mirian Hopkins was a master of the forced and leering.

DR JOSE - I am sure Guy has already included CIRICIRIBIN in the play list, so my mention of it would be redundant.

Gabe is in the same school (more or less--he had AP HS classes at this high school last year when he was still in Middle School).  Zach seems to have transitioned very well into his new middle school.

I just noticed something about those pics of the house--that tree in the front yard is no more.
