WOW!  So Harvey Fierstein is going into La Cage aux Folles as Albin, replacing Douglas Hodge.  They haven't announced Kelsey Grammer's replacement.  -Is it time for a round of HHW Casting Office?

Ralph Macchio, of course, should replace Kelsey Grammar.

Happy 10th anniversary, HHW. It's been about a year since I've joined the family and I'm thankful for all of you.

Go to the funeral, bk. You produced some wonderful work with her. I'm sure her family would want to share that.

From Jose:
Quote
Well, at least it came out of the pan, and that's half the battle. Wink

I also have a Rose Bundt pan, and I've found that the best way to prep the pan with butter is with a pastry brush. It gets in all the nooks and crannies.  As for it being a smidgen too dry, well, most red velvet cakes are a smidgen too dry.  That's what the frosting is for.  Wink

I used a pastry brush.  I think my error was using shortening, since that is what the recipe used, instead of butter.  With my shoulder everything was difficult.  Because the cake didn't slide out of the pan I'm having trouble getting it cleaned.  I've decided I'm going back to heavier, fattening cakes for that pan.

The cake was good with the frosting, but it did need the frosting so those who have to avoid frosting didn't really enjoy it that much.

Jose I have a mix mixer which is harder for me to use than a good hand mixer.  In fact I purchased a new hand mixer that was easier to work.  I'm not sure it had as much power, hard to tell since it didn't shake in my hand like my old one did. ;D

And Happy Tenth Anniversary, BK!

I do remember that during the last part of this crisis, in October, we had an HHW gathering and I finally met DRs Ben, Noel, PennyO, and Jane. I believe there was one earlier, but at this point I can find neither a photo to prove it nor to display an accurate memory. The photo here is dated Oct 22, 2004 in my computer.

I was so close I had to go to NY and meet you in person.  I still remember the stay I answered the phone and had a wonderful unexpected surprise when you were on the other end to say hello. :)

TOD - While in NYC on library business in the fall of 2004, I spent some time with DR Elmore who was just recovering from the travails he described in today's earlier post.  He had another friend in from out of town that same week - someone named Jane, who I figured was someone he'd worked with somewhere along the line.  He also told me about this website where he'd been spending a lot of time and I started lurking.  Before long, DR JRand posted a woman's picture and asked if anyone could identify her.  I registered, made the ID, and have been here ever since.  Didn't take long to figure out that the Jane visiting DR Elmore that week was our very own DR Jane and that my library business meetings had been held at DR Ben's workplace.

It is somewhat frustrating knowing you could have been at that dinner with us.  I came very, very close to suggesting Larry, his out of town friend, and I all get together.  At least I got to meet you in person the following year. :)

I think my most memorable times are my first HHW gathering in Portland.  I knew then that I would get together with Hainesies and Kimlets whenever I could.  The first New York walking and eating tour was a blast....and the central park tour.  You guys were so great to my nephew Jon and in many ways gave him his own "it get's better" moment.  He's a different person now..much happier and I think some of that came from the people he met and what he saw in New York.

That's very nice to read about Jon.

I still remember your hesitancy on the way to JMK's house & your excitement on the way back to the hotel. ;)

NY has wonderful hosts.  DR elmore has met me at the train and escorted me to my hotel.  DR Ben has walked me to the theater to make sure I got my tickets without getting lost.  DR Jose organizes wonderful walking tours & activities.  I will never forget all the food at DR FJL's after we had eaten.  It was delicious and I still found room to eat, without sharing with the boys on the floor.  Other DR's traveled great distances to meet me in NY.

Since I wasn't getting anything done today, I went out and bought one of those great big cat climber/tree/perch whatever you call them.  It's almost 5 feet tall with three platforms.   Ricky keeps eyeing my book case, so I decided to give him a place to roost that won't hurt anything.  I think they'll really like it.

I love those.  I thought about getting one of those for Craig's cat.  Since we don't expect them to stay too long I'll wait until later to decide.  I do need to get an enclosed litter box.

I hope they don't have any new surprises for you & they are both well.

I've just read a short news blurb that says Betty White has been named an Honorary Forest Ranger.

Harrumph!

First, she wins an Emmy (for hosting SNL) that should have gone to Kristen Chenoweth (for "Glee")....and now she gets an honorary forest ranger honor that, at the very least, should have gone to our very own DR Laura.

Will the madness continue?

;D

I decided not to go to the meet and greet and get the free food. :(

My head started really hurting around 4pm.  This is one of the things that scares me the most.  I've had 2 very bad experiences with migraines. One (maybe 9 years ago) where I was mis-diagnosed and then hospitalized. That was very scary. I lost part of my memory. I couldn't even  remember which university I went to (I mean I knew the name of the other university in Montreal but I just couldn't remember how to say the one I went to).

I can tell the difference between a regular headache, a sinus headache and something more. And the latter scares the heck out of me.

Well around 4:30pm it seemed like my head was getting worse and I felt like I was going to throw up  and I was becoming sensitive to light(migraine symptoms for me).

The migraine pills i have (which i never have to use) are fiorinol (sp?) but they were expired. But I thought I'd try one and see if it worked.

I probably shouldn't be using the internet. But it isn't getting worse (good sign). And I don't feel like I have to throw up anymore. So i'm sitting in the dark typing (for some reason looking at the computer is not hurting my head.

I think it's getting better. Fingers crossed. I was sort of freaking out about what to do if i threw up the meds. Do I go to the clinic? The emergency room? Does fiorinol inhibit driving?

I am really hungry. And usually food helps when i have a regular headache. Just not sure what i have to eat that is ready made (since i was going to go out to eat).

Jennifer losing your memory sounds scary.  I doubt using the expired medication is a problem.  You might want to make an appointment with your doctor to get more in case it happens again.  I have a friend who goes to emergency to get a shot of pain killer when hers are bad enough.  Most people I know take their meds and go to bed until it is over, which can be a day or two.  When you feel better I suggest you read up on severe migraines, before you see the doctor.
