TOD:
Does anyone still publish "The Weekly Reader"? I loved it in grade school and it might make a thoughtful gift for DR MBarnum, if some of the words aren't too difficult. I also loved the Micky Mouse Club Magazine. And Famous Monsters of Filmdom.
In junior high school I discovered "New Yorker," which encouraged my move away from Ohio.
In high school I became addicted to "Theatre Arts," "Opera News," "High Fidelity" and "Stereo Review," all of which I followed faithfully for years. "High Fidelity" and "Stereo Review" may still be published but their quality decreased along with the musical tastes of the American public, and I don't think I've looked at an issue in over 10 years.
In college I discovered "Dance Magazine" and British magazines "Gramophone" (still subscribe) and "Opera" and "After Dark," to which I subscribed until its demise around 1982 or so.
In the 1970s, I added "New York Magazine" to my reasons to leave Ohio.
When I got to NYC, I loved "Theatre Week" and Max Preeo's "Show Music," neither of which lasted. I also found "American Record Guide" and "Fanfare," to which I've subscribed for over 15 years.
