Friday morning greetings! I'm up early for a 9:30 appointment to pick up the new glasses I ordered last week before Richard and I head to Oxford, OH, for him to sing with the Men's Glee Club at winter commencement. From there, we're going on to Cincinnati for an event that I cannot tell you about until it's over, but we'll do some Christmas shopping along the way.

I am, once again, nestled in the bosom of South Carolina and all things Palmetto State/South Carolinian/southern everything.

My flight was uneventful. I was unable to sleep more than an hour in transit. I was unsettled. Out of sorts. Ill at ease. Once at my mom's house, I had a nice lunch of stew with corn bread...and then a four-hour nap. Wednesday e'en, I went with my mom to Johnston's First Baptist Church to see a repeat performance of the chancel and children's choirs annual Cantata.

I was unprepared for this. The choir was much larger than I've ever seen it, and this was due to the fact the church has a new choir director who, on Thursday, was graduated from Newberry College with a BA in some music degree. Many choir members were friends from another nearby church he once attended. And in the auditorium, at least half the pews were filled. This was astounding for a Wednesday evening.

The cantata was pretty good. I only nodded off a couple of times, but I was listening the whole time, I promise.

Yesterday was our trek to the climes of Spartanburg SC to visit my cousin Dot Jolley (87 years young) and share a meal at Wade's family cooking restaurant. Happily, there was turkey and dressing on the menu this year (last year it was conspicuously missing and I was VERY disappointed). I had the turkey and dressing w/cranberry sauce and two sides: A most delicous sweet potato souffle and tasty fried green tomatoes. Afterward, we visited the cemeter where my grandparents and great grandparents (maternal) are buried and placed flowers on the graves.

On our return, we shopped at Westgate Mall, where I bought a few things at CostCo, and then shopped at Dillards where I procured a couple of pairs of dressy trousers.

Last night, I prepared supper and surprised my mother with her first taste of pasta with pesto sauce. She was leery...oh, yes! Leery. But...she liked it. And then I teased her with another use we will make of the pesto sauce...as an additive to a turkey sandwich. Smear some of the sauce on the mayo on one slice of bread...and that sandwich takes on a whole NEW and WONDERFUL dimension.

Today is kick-around Friday. Nothing planned. Nothing expected. Take it as it happens. We are going to Greenville SC on Monday. We're having my cousin Debra and her hubby Rob for a spaghetti supper on Tuesday night.

Other than that, I shall endeavor to keep a tight leash on the rapid-fire pace each day seems to be taking. I'm enjoying my visit...and hope it's not over too fast.

Good morning, all! Today is a day at the offices of Frank Loesser Enterprises, but I had a ton of laundry to do as well, so I was up early. I mst be feeling better today because my body didn't fight my determination to accomplish the laundry early and I was out of bed, bathed, dressed and to the laundromat by 7:30.

I think I've made the turn in my health, although it's hard to be accurate given the crud that seems to be engulfing every space between my lungs and bald spot. If I'm still feeling puny on Monday, I'll call my dctor and see her before Christmas Eve.

So I got back here around 7:50 and my phone rang; it was my brother Randy calling me to apologize for Thanksgiving and to tell me he loved me. All is well, as I predicted it would be. While I was talking to him, my call waiting rang, and it was my beloved sister-in-law Jo checking in! If that's not a kick for good health I don't know what is.

So, tonight, when I get back from the Loesser offices, I will pull out the wrapping paper and get ready for Christmas shipments to parts hither and yon.

Ah, yes, I did.

I'm not sure about using a bread machine for cookie dough. I'd say the best thing to do would be to check your instruction booklet if you still have it. Or check the manufacturer's website for some sort of FAQ. *I also seem to remember a shortbread recipe that called for melting the butter beforehand to make it much easier to mix, then you let it sit for a couple of hours before rolling and cutting. I'll see if I can track it down later.

As for KitchenAid v. Cuisinart v.

-I've always been a KitchenAid person. However, the competition is so close nowadays, it really all depends on just how "fancy" you want your stand mixer and how much you want to spend on it. Be sure to KitchenAid's website, they tend to offer special coupons and rebates every now and then. KitchenAid also sells fully-warrantied refurbished models at considerable savings. You can check Amazon for those or a local outlet.
