Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of both squash and Squash, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently playing cow Squash.

Tuesday morning greetings!  It's so foggy in Savannah this morning that we can't even see the river, much less South Carolina on the other side.  Getting ready to head to St. Augustine after maybe a little more exploring here.

It snowed again last night - not a lot - just enough to freeze the cars up - so I must go and defrost

I have played softball, minature golf, tried "REAL" golf (I was terrible), bowling and raquetball (when I met Vixdad he had a raquetball club memeber ship - I preferred the jacuzzi to the court)

Thanks, DR Vixmom - I'd been thinking of today as the first day of our 4th decade of marriage, but your take is much more romantic!

Good morning, all! I am having lots of dreams involving dead relatives and I'm not sure what to make of it; last night's involved my grandmother's house (I think) in Appalachian Kentucky, a snowstorm, my mother in a crabby mood, my dad, others including several cousins, an adorable gray shorthaired kitten, and a heavy snow. All I remember now is the arrival of company, the fact that I was stark naked and having to walk back in the snow to the house to find some clothes, and the kitten playing in the snow and its confrontation with a large white cat. Another weird dream.

I should be doing laundry at the moment, but I have no drive to accomplish it, so I'm postponing it until tomorrow. I do have to leave here around 10 and head down to Toyland. I have several Act One edits to accomplish before I meet Mr Skip Kennon for a round of edits on the Appendix numbers.

DR cillaliz, I could use a mimosa as well.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday to our DR CharlesPogue !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had this young couple over to the house for dinner last night.  He's a distant cousin and she's his g.f., 22-years old and a college student.

Maybe it's me.  I have no idea.  But, over the course of the evening, names like Orson Welles, Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, John Dillinger, Al Capone, Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Joe Biden, John Lennon and Charlie Chaplin (whose picture was on the wall) came up, and she had absolutely no idea who were were talking about.

It's odd, because you can have hit TV shows that are all about knowing the cultural references and still have a generation that knows nothing. And doesn't care about knowing anything.

Sad thing is, I've stopped caring about knowing anything about the younger generation, such as all those unknowns at the Golden Globes the other night.

It might be a nice day here. Temperature is already 52 degrees and, for a change in the last week or more, the sun is out.

Mucho thanks, for the birthday felicitations, all!

I'm celebrating by teaching a bunch of young aspiring filmmakers about screenwriting this week.  This morning I shall show them the beginnings of several movies...most of which none of them have ever seen.  This goes to Druxy's lament above.  I am frequently dumbfounded that younger folk have no cultural touchstones outside their own generation, particularly those who want to be in show business.  It seems to me you need to know something about the history and legacy of the trade you wish to be in.  But it's even larger than just cultural...they have no historical context in general.

TOD:  Like several others, I have little interest in sporting events.  I enjoy the aesthetics of baseball and watch it occasionally on the TV and go to a game every now and then.   But if my team...The Cincinnati Reds...is not doing well mid-way into the season, I lose interest and don't look at the sports page again until spring training.   I played some junior league baseball and some high school football and hated every minute of it..mostly did it because of peer pressure.  It frustrated a lot of coaches because I was very fast and built like Tarzan in my youth.  I was athletic, without being an athlete...but preferred non-competitive endeavours like swimming (I was a very good swimmer), walking, jogging, isometrics and other body-building programs.
