Funnily, I found the Joan Cusack run the most contrived thing in the film - the staging of it was very annoying because the people getting in her way were just too obvious.

Has anybody seen RED w/ Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, etc.?

Any good?

I'm thinking of renting it.

Hopefully the producers of Spiderman.... don't misread that as a "show emergency" and begin to start damage control or something like that

Wish we'd have at least some snow here.  PDX is bathed in a low blanket of fog today, which looks amazing from the new house.  It's like the whole valley has a soft puffy cloud on top of it.

The reviewer at Blu-ray.com liked it quite a bit.

I love the BOOK feature DR JMK.

DR DRUXY did you watch Rock in The Spiral Road yet?  Not a GREAT movie, but interesting, and Rock has some very good acting scenes with Gena Rowlands and Burl Ives.

After yesterday's Oscar noms, methinks it's Lea Michele who will be begging for an autograph.  ;)

It took me three hours, but I have drafted my response to last night's email. Now we see what happens.

DR JRand60, thanks for the DARK SHADOWS news! I can't wait to see them. I remember seeing in Oxford, OH, one of the two DARK SHADOW movies but it's been too long to remember which one.

Yes, Michael Maguire, whom I last saw in London in 2001 recording wth John McGlinn (OH BOY! and HAVE A HEART), has left the biz. Lotta stories there.

To pontificate further - I've seen the creators of shows be incredibly stubborn about changes to the detriment of their show.  That happened most recently with Leap of Faith.  If everyone, and I mean everyone is telling you something doesn't work, change it - it's really simple - IT DOESN'T WORK.  In Leap of Faith the director/choreographer had a concept of Agnes de Mille-like segues between scenes and an opening that was the same.  Everyone hated it.  Everyone.  He would not change it.  If David Merrick were his producer he would have changed it or he would have been replaced.

Other shows the same story.  The stubbornness is shocking.  And you cannot be lulled into a false sense of greatness by friends who see the reading - they just want to be positive and supportive and that's the single most harmful thing that happens at these readings.  The necessary changes aren't made because people are hooting and hollering.  I remember seeing the second reading of Wicked, some of which I liked and some of which I didn't.  When I saw Stephen Schwartz after I accentuated the positive and he said "I'm thrilled you liked it, but I want to know what you didn't like.  Send me notes." Which I did.

A Question for BK...when you (or anyone, for that matter) get asked for notes, do you get paid or do you do it as a professional courtesy?

I have been having SO much fun using the "Books" filter on Google to find old magazine articles about various folks.  I finally know three of the four people who were in the short-lived 1968 band THE COLLAGE.  Even arranger Perry Botkin, Jr. couldn't remember that when I emailed him about the album a few years ago.  :)

I enjoy looking at old Life and New York magazines on Google Books.

No, it's a courtesy.  If someone is brought on to doctor a show, however, they end up with a royalty position in the show.

I had great news this morning, that a Kritzerland project that I thought would take quite a while to be approved (it involves a studio that has a VERY slow approvals process) has been approved and it only took a week, which is totally amazing.  So, that becomes our next release.

Another question for BK:  when will Kritzerland release its next cast album...if it's not the project that just got approved?

Has anyone seen IFC's homage to my own home town, "Portlandia"?  Betsy and I watched a DVR'd episode last night.  A bit pretentious, but it had some very funny bits, our favorite being the skit with the yuppie couple at the restaurant wanting personal information on the chicken they were about to eat.  :)
