Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And this is the first time I've turned on my computer in the past 48 hours...

And my father's birthday was yesterday. Happy Birthday, Dad! Alas, I was not able to head down to Virginia to celebrate with my family, although, my mother just called to tell me that they're going out tonight with their grandchildren. Alas, I will not be able to join them tonight either. At least I know that they'll be plenty of pictures. :)

TOD: I could be typing movies all day. I love all of the Pagnol movies (such as "The Baker's Wife") I've seen and the ones based on his books ("Jean de Florette," "My Mother's Castle"). Godard ("Contempt," "Breathless"), Truffaut ("The 400 Blows"), Renoir ("Rules of the Game"), anything by Eric Rohmer, Cocteau ("Beauty and the Beast"), Bresson ("Au Hassard Baltassar"). My brain is getting fuzzy, but others on the list would be "Quai des Oufevres," "The Triplets of Belleville," and "8 Women."

In other news...

My past 48 hours turned out to be quite unexpectedly busy. Thankfully, the recording sessions with my friend went well, and all of the rest of the "stuff" I had to take care of also went well. Things just ended up running much longer than planned, expected.  And there are still a few things that I need to take care of this afternoon.

Of course... We're supposed to get some more snow tomorrow and possibly on Wednesday... Hopefully, that won't interfere with my flight to Memphis on Thursday morning.

Just used the Best Buy "Pre-order for Store Pickup" option for a bunch of BB BD exclusives I have to review (including the Frankenheimer MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE), and it works!  I was afraid the store closest to me wouldn't have stock by tomorrow, but they do, they do!

Favorite Barry scores might be a nice alternate TOD.

I of course love the 007 stuff, but I've always been quite fond of MIDNIGHT COWBOY.

For some reason I never liked DANCES WITH WOLVES.

Good morning, all! I am at Toyland following a McGlinn meeting: around 2:45 yesterday afternoon my computer crashed and burned one more time. That was the end of my internet service. A frep with Roadrunner told me I needed a new modem which I picked up this morning around 8:30, before my meeting. I stopped by Toyland to check for any important emails and to explain my E&T behavior.

I will go home now, see if the new modem solves the problem and either cancel or wait for the Time Warner service man to show up between 2 and 5. Oy.

Once I'm up and running I will catch up on things.

Noted film composer John Barry dies

...It was also sad to hear that soprano, Dame Margaret Price, and the composer, Milton Babbitt, died this past weekend.

My new modem has everything working again, I've called Time Warner and canceled my service call.

DR JRand60, the new issue of Fangoria lists their choices for 300 best horror films. HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS made the list.

Oh... After the past two days, I decided not to attend today's dress rehearsal for "Nixon in China" at The Met. And since I didn't get out of bed until around 10:40, and since the dress rehearsal started at 11:00, well... Sleep was good. Sleep was needed.

From Matthew:
Quote
So, today we hung out in SF and hit some pastry places and had a really great time.  We had dinner at a FANTASTIC German restaurant and finished up our night with a lovely plated dessert HERE  What an awesome day!

The dessert lounge is making me hungry :)

In happier news, we had a very nice dinner party last night with 20 people, and the house did not seem crowded in the slightest.

:)  Not that I expected your house to seem crowded.
