I like  Big Love as well John G - it is about the only show that I watch regularly

Since I don't get cable, I need to wait until a season comes out on DVD. So, I'm on Season Four. I know the one currently airing is the last, which is a shame.

And speaking of young singers, a friend of mine had an extra ticket to the joint presentation of The Bartered Bride by The Metropolitan Opera and The Juilliard School last night, so I joined him...

First of all, it was my first time in the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre. What a gorgeous facility! Great sightlines, great acoustics, a big stage and a big orchestra pit (with hydraulics!).

As for the opera... The leads were comprised of singers from The Met's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and/or Juilliard's advanced Voice division, and the Juilliard Orchestra was led by none other than Maestro James Levine. -And Stephen Wadsworth was the stage director. It was quite a wonderful evening all around. Beautiful singing, spectacular playing, and even some fine dancing courtesy of Juilliard Dance. The "circus interlude" at the top of the Act 3 was particularly enjoyable.

This was the first presentation in this collaboration/experiment, and it seemed to work very well. Additionally, the production used a new translation by J.D. McClatchey, and, apparently, this is a trial run for an expanded version for the Met's 2012-13 season.

sounds wonderful -- I must say I truly enjoy hearing about these perfomrances that you go to ---

I didn't go in to work today.  I had a very uncomfortable night.  It hurt no matter which way I tried to sleep.  I woke up at about two and my whole body was shaking.  I got up and took some Tylenol and drifited back to sleep.  There was no way I  could face getting in the shower before work.

very gentle hugs

Ginny, it is none of my business (but when has that ever stopped me), is your second cousin's mother Japanese?

Yes, DR TCB, my cousin moved to Japan 23 years ago to teach English.  He married a Japanese woman and they had a son who is now a college freshman here in the US.  My cousin and his wife were divorced when their child was very young and my cousin did a wonderful job as a single father.  About 10 years ago, he married another Japanese woman and they have this 7-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl.  All 3 children are delightful and my cousin is a fabulous parent.

Thanks, DR Vixmom - she's arguing even with him.  Something tells me that his visit is going to get worse before it gets better and I'm so glad that we're able to provide some sort of warm environment while he and his son are here.

I'm pretty exhausted, so - 'night!
