DR Danise, if you can listen to Internet radio stations, you might be interested in a BBC show which has just started running. It's called Ball Over Broadway. Michael Ball will be looking at Broadway over the next few weeks and reporting from New York. It's a taped show which plays at 2pm (New York time) on Fridays for the next few weeks. After each broadcast the weekly show will be on the BBC 2 Web site for one week until the new show airs. This week he focuses on Wicked and next week he will report about On The Town.

Here is the link to BBC 2

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/

Hope you can listen.

MY heart belongs to Monty (Clift)...

Danise - Good to hear you're feeling better. Hope the NY trip is wonderful!

Jose - I totally agree with your thoughts on the "what if" factor.

DVD - broken

VCR - Empty. I have a ton of material I've received for Emmy voting, but have not as yet looked at anything.

CD - CHESS! Sent to me by the ever-gracious td. Can't say I'd walk out of the theatre humming the tunes. The Hungarian Revolution number came as a surprise and got me a tad emotional. But I don't think that's the number - it's just me. As for the Hungarian lullaby - if I hadn't known they were speaking Hungarian, I would never have guessed. It's a HARD language, but surely they could've done a little better. Still, I'm very grateful to td for sending it to me. And I'll listen to some of it again to see if I've missed something.

JMK - Oy! Bone healing vibes your way.

JR - I'm planning to see COMPANY. Don't know when yet.

DR PANNI the theatre sounded interesting, but Judith Light is just so bizarre that I cannot imagine her in COMPANY.....I will await your review!

JMK - I saw that you - or someone - got a bargain.  And I kept wondering about that CD ROM.....where did she get those pictures?  LOL....she didn't seem to be selling many of them if at all, and probably thought they were all free for the taking.  Don't be too hard on her....

Great constructive review of Bounce the cd by our own Dear Reader BK!

Now, on the other hand, Howard is upset because of the mess up with his last name...

He claims that if his last name were PARRISH, no mistake would have been made! ;)

Perish the thought!

Medea Check:

CD Player (at home):  Dressed To Kill soundtrack

CD Player (at work):  Ella in Berlin: Mack the Knife

DVD:  Serial Mom

VCR:  I Married a Witch

Unfinished song for Hermione Gingold:

T'was the middle of May I remember.
I was shopping for a role for the fall,
Something to open in November.
A light comedy by Coward or Shaw.

I dialed up my agent, Bernie LaRue,
While sipping on a very dry martini.
I cried to him, "Bernie, what shall I do?"
I want a big production to star me!"

He spoke not a word--he gave me a fright.
I began to suspect he had died.
But before I could 'minister any last rite
My secret agent finally replied:

You must do "Medea", m'dear!
The critics will certainly cheer.
They will "Hip! Hip! Hooray!"
Every line that you say
And claim you're the actress sans peer!

You must do "Medea", m'dove!
It's a role that sent down from above.
An enchantress, a witch,
And a bit of a bitch,
And a warm-hearted mother (sort of...)

We will get you a young hunky Jason,
Who will set your libido a'racin'.
And the hearts of the audience will stop
When you give those two kiddies the chop-chop!

Yes, you must do "Medea", m'dear!
'Cause you certainly can't play "King Lear".
You would look much too weird
In a long and white beard.
And enough people think that you're queer.

Yes, you must do "Medea"!
Oh, you must do "Medea"!
Yes, you must do "Medea", m'dear!

François, lucky you.  We prefer matinees so I’m envious you can go any time you like.  What a huge selection to choose from.  I might find that a bit overwhelming.

Nice try, Dear Reader Tomovoz

You've tried to smuggle "something" from India and try to make us believe it's a cd from Ireland! :o

Do you really have to involve Dear Reader MBarnum??? :(

Media Watch:

Plain matzah, with smooth peanut butter and strawberry preserves, which, DR Jane, is one of my favorite post-Passover treats!

You bring back memories of school lunches during Passover.  I recall that was the preferred bag lunch.  My favorite was chunky peanut butter with plum jam.

Another June leaves us in May:
Earlier the week the death of June Taylor, choreographer for the Jackie Gleason Show, was reported.  Now it was just announced that June Carroll, best known from NEW FACES OF 1952 has died.  If you have ever seen the film version you will remember Miss Carroll singing "Penny Candy" with a young Carol Lawrence as a backup dancer or dueting "Time For Tea" with Alice Ghostly.  The LP/CD of the show features Miss Carroll doing "Guess Who I Saw Today" which was cut from the film.  Although she did not have as much future success as such NEW FACES co-stars like Eartha Kitt, Paul Lynde, Alice Ghostly, Robert Clary or Carol Lawrence, her contributions to that show alone (she also wrote some of the material) is enough to make her an important part of American Musical Theatre history.

DVD-one that Keith’s brother lent us, consisting of several show.  The first night we watched ANNIE OAKLEY.   Last night we watched THE ROY ROGERS SHOW.  Tonight it’s THE CISCO KID, the Robin Hood of the old West.

Last night, while watching Roy Rogers, Keith kept asking over and over in his annoying way: “If the show took place in “modern” times (e.g., Nellie Belle, the jeep), why is everyone, other than Pat Brady, wearing guns and riding horses?”  So dear readers--why?

Keith really wasn't annoying (he typed that).  I couldn't stop laughing. ;D ;D

Four of my favorite shows.  Loved Gail Davis and love Roy and Dale, and love Richard Greene as Robin of Loxandbagels.   Today if they did a TV series of Robin Hood it would be on WB and called Tales from the Hood.

The Cisco Kid is called the Robin Hood of the West.  It is possible, and would be a treat, if Robin Hood is on there someplace but I don't know yet.

Those are some interesting comments about how folks don't like BOMBAY DREAMS as much in its NYC incarnation as in its London one since Mr. Andrew Lloyd Webber has had exactly the opposite reaction. He closed (or is closing) the original London version and retooling it with the American version which supposedly he MUCH prefers. I read this in VARIETY some weeks ago about a month before BOMBAY DREAMS even started previews here.

This Emmy voting stuff is really getting out of control. Each day I receive gigantic boxes of tapes and DVDs. Today I got the Showtime box withTHE LION IN WINTER (not aired yet) among other things (PENN & TELLER; QUEER AS FOLK, etc.). Knowing that the voters are getting a LOT of material, they try to grab your attention with the packaging. Last week a huge presentation arrived for JOAN OF ARCADIA. It's been lying unopened under the TV. Today I decided to clean up, so I took the box - about as big as a tray, with a soulful picture of Joan on the cover - and tried to open it. It wouldn't budge. Finally I managed to pry it open -- and it started to SING "If God was one of us..."... My dog, who'd been watching me struggle with the box, jumped halfway across the room. And inside the singing box was a DVD -- AND a live tree sapling to be planted. Sheeesh! A singing box and a tree. They've got my vote.

Oh, that's sad to read about June Carroll's passing. Some people never reach the degree of success they deserve. I'll pull out the NEW FACES cast album and listen to some June tonight.

If that's true and you're not just funning with us, it's just another reason why the Emmys are meaningless.

Some years ago, I was offered the opportunity to write/produce a reworking of the Roy Rogers Show with Clint Black (who looks like him) as Roy (or Roy's son - can't remember). The idea was that we would write intros for each episode for the real Roy to read as narration. I was truly looking forward to meeting him and getting his input on the stories. The whole thing was a strange mish-mosh - an international co-production. Germany had a lot of money in it - so there was to be a GERMAN character in the town... and so on. Eventually, the thing fell apart in the financing -- but it would have been fun! (I'm having trouble seeing what I'm posting - it's W-I-D-E...)
