Just had a call from elmore - senility and overtiredness is a terrible thing and I am living proof of it.  I posted the notes early and was so happy I went directly to bed without opening the new topic.

Good morning, all! I knew somethng was amiss when I logged on to HHW this morning. My beloved friend BK is many things, but I've never dscribed his as absentminded or dizzy; in fact the words that most often come to mind are tenacious, focused, centered, loyal, and energetic. So, when I saw there was no new topic and yesterday's topic still open, I was alarmed: he's had an emergency with a friend or his daughter, he's either on the floor in a coma or in a hospital bed. So I called to check on him, and I'm glad I did. Not in too many years has an answered telephone sounded so wonderful. BK, I'm glad you are all right. You scared me.

So, back to me. I slept dreadfully and as a result slept late. I remember little of my dreams except that i was on the Miami University campus in front of the student center.

Today, I have another trip to the Lincoln Center NYPL for more Histporic Newspapers Online research. Who knows what else will occur today?

More coffee!

It's just fatigue, BK! I feel my body slowing down and I feel tired all the time, but I'm older and out of shape. You'll be young and energetic for a long time yet.

I hope the rest of your days goes swimmingly with no frightened phone calls from the east coast!

I'm glad you called.  I would have noticed it soon thereafter - I'd just gotten the announcement posted everywhere - that was a problem in itself, since for the first time the webguy's alarm didn't go off, so we went live twenty-five minutes late.

I'm listening to John Houseman's retelling of the premiere of THE CRADLE WILL ROCK on the 1985 recording. The premiere was on June 17, 1937, 20 years to the day before my beloved brother Randy was born.

Now I want to read Houseman's memoirs again.

Got to get more writing done today. I leafed through all 750 pages of David Halberstam's "The Fifties" last night and gleaned a few good nuggets. But I'm tired. I may just nap. And it's only 10 a.m.

Monday morning greetings!  Nice as he was, Matthew's attempt to help me fix my computer last night did not hold and I had to have another Apple Care session this morning with James.  He walked me through another process that, alas, did not solve the problem, so Richard and I are off to the Genius Bar at the Cincinnati Apple Store.  Thank goodness I purchased the extended Apple Care and my laptop is still under warranty.

And their shipment from Thornton's is due in next week.

Mint Special Toffee? :)

I've been told it is difficult for the English stores to get Thornton's anymore, not that I ever found it easy.  There was one store in Santa Monica that used to carry it.

There's a wonderful and fairly long audio interview with Eve Arden, hosted by a really rather wonderful Lucille Ball, on THE MOTHERS IN LAW DVD set.  I didn't know Lucy had her own interview show on CBS radio for a while.

Made a tray of cherry-chocolate scones for breakfast. Hot from the oven with some butter melted into them. Yes.

Something rather odd struck me this morning:  THE PINES OF ROME started playing on Sirius XM and I was struck by how positively Coplandesque that opening brass theme is.

It's a lot of fun.  BK's close personal friend Kay Cole was evidently cast as the daughter at one point--she's in the pilot.  Deborah Walley replaced her for the series.
