TOD:

No idea what I'll watch this weekend.

Nothing new to review, so I'll probably pull something out of my library.

I don't recall the score, but I did like MULHOLLAND FALLS...as well as FAREWELL, MY LOVELY.

I also think that L.A. CONFIDENTIAL is the best movie to come out of Hollywood in the last 25 years.

William Campbell, Jackie Cooper and Sada Thompson:

I guess it does come in threes, doesn't it?

Both sad and kind of disgusted-amused as I read this sheaf of papers from NYU on my late Uncle.  The Abraham Lincoln Brigade was both defaming him and begging for his considerable money within 24 hours of his death.

I have ordered MULHOLLAND FALLS, and it is not here yet, so I am filing a dispute with PayPal.

I believe Sada rented from one of my Uncles when she did a Neil Simon play, or am I imagining that she did a Simon play?

I might be thinking of Maureen Stapleton in "The Gingerbread Lady," though it indeed could have been Sada in "Twigs."

Druxy, have you ever posted a link to your reviews?  I need to see how often you say "debris."  ;)

Here's the music geek observation o' the day:  I'm listening to George Shearing's exquisite Bossa Nova album for the first time in years (it would make a great reissue, BK).  I just noticed today that Clare Fischer, the consummate orchestrator/arranger, interpolated his own "Carnaval,"  a lovely and quite dissonant song, into his arrangement of "Green Dolphin Street."  That is all.

It's what BK likes to call a "runner", Druxy.  Search for "debris" on this site and you will see BK does not like it when reviewers use that term.

Since so many have been puzzled by the debris comments, it's becoming clear none of you are reading BK's posts.  :)

And while I enjoyed Arthur Laurents' work, I know of a particularly cruel casting couch episode that never made me fond of the man.

Pavilion...

Vermilion...

Okay, there's a show tune with the word vermilion but it keeps slipping out of my grasp.  What is it?

From Bruce:
Quote
And what do you think they're saying on the chat boards about Mr. Laurents' passing?  "This is such shocking news."  Note to idiots:  It's not shocking when a man who has lived and worked for ninety-three years dies.  Shocking is when a twelve year old dies, or a twenty year old or a sixty year old.

This made me laugh.  I was shocked when my 98 year old grandfather died.  I was shocked because I always expected him to live 100 years.  He only missed his birthday by a few months.
