Good Afternoon!

Greetings from Fairfax, VA!

And Is It Fair In Fairfax???

Actually, it was/is quite fair in Fairfax. Alas, the fair weather also means pollen weather... Thus my sinus headache - which, thankfully, is not that bad.

DR TCB - the stage manager shows up from time to time, takes the director's attention away from the stage - writes on a piece of paper, and then she leaves.

I wasn't the one who asked (I don't think), but it is a relief that you have such genius in charge backstage.

Umm...

<cough, cough>

I was.

<cough>

So...

When I headed out earlier, I was going to meet my friend, Andy. Since there's no real "straight line" between my brother's place and Andy's house and the Kennedy Center, we agreed to meet up at Andy's workplace. Andy was going to park his car there, and I would drive us both in to the Kennedy Center. When I got there, Andy called me to tell me that he was almost there... But that he had left the tickets at home, and he had just turned around to head back home to get them. So, I went ahead and drove to his house, picked him - and the tickets - up, and drove us both in to DC from there.

As for Follies...

It was nice seeing DR's FJL and Ben again. I also ran into Joe Kolinski at the stage door before the show, as well as my friend, Parker Esse, who is the associate choreographer for the production. I also spotted a couple more NYCers in the audience tonight too.

Best of all, it was great to see and spend time with Andy again.

And as for Follies....

Well...

Terri White hits "Who's That Woman?" out of the park.
Danny Burstein is a wonderful Buddy.
It's always nice seeing Linda Lavin on stage.
And it will be nice to see how Jan Maxwell's "Phyllis' settles in over the run.

How was the staging?  Is it just another also-ran production?

And...

Originally, my parents were going to come up to Fairfax tomorrow, and we were all going to go to a Mother's Brunch at Ft. Myers. Unfortunately, my mom was admitted to the hospital late last night/early this morning due to a complication after a dental procedure she had earlier in the week.

We'll be heading down to Richmond around Noon to spend Mother's Day in the hospital with her. I may end up staying overnight, and then just head back up to NYC on Tuesday morning instead of Monday morning. In the meantime...

Goodnight.

I'll wait for DRs Ben and FJL to chime in, but...

There are 31 people in the cast. There are only three or four scenes where all 31 of them - let alone even 20 members of the cast are on stage at the same time. -Where's the party?

Sadly, I got the sense that this production was directed as if it was a star vehicle for Ms. Peters, well... And, to my ears at least, it seems that they're using Barbara Cook's keys for Sally's songs instead of the (lower) original keys. -Or maybe everything just sounded "high" in her voice tonight.

I also got bugged by the lack of a real piano in the pit. -During the Sondheim Celebration, we had a Steinway Grand Piano in the pit for all of the shows. Consequently, the orchestra is mic'd a bit too much to my ears.
