And the word of the day is: NEONISM!

And The Song Of The Day Is:  NEW WORDS

A Beautiful Song By Maury Yeston

It's my favorite song to perform in sign language!

My cousin Caroline from Birmingham, Alabama, was in town for a convention and we got together for a few hours. It' was fun. Haven't seen her or anyone else from Dad's side of the family for 12 years. I showed her around a tiny bit, we had a wonderful seafood dinner and then went to see the Symphony because there was an extra ticket. All in all quite pleasant.

Ginny thanks for the congratulations - the trip was a lot o fun and I am so glad I went along -  no retelling of the tale  could have possibly reproduced the feeling of sitting there in that stadium as the awards were announced  -  I was sitting with the Vixter and her friends - all members of the chorus - and she and  all of her female friends are also members of the women's choir

As they announced 5th place, 4th place, 3rd place and our school was not named  the held hands were squeezed tightly , breaths were held ... 2nd place not us..........a loooooooooooooooong pause...

First place with a rating of "superior " goes to ................................................. .........................(I finally know what the finalists in Miss America feel like)................................................. ................."Insert our school name here"

Absolute pandemonium - one of the chorus dads who was with us had tears streaming down his cheeks - the kids were besides them selves with joy  and (this  made me so very proud of the kids)   within seconds they had all turned from where they stood  and faced their music director, applauding her and shouting "thank you Mrs. L......."  "We love you Mrs L!!.".

and then we got to do it allover again for the women's choir!

and when they announced that our school won for all over best choir of any type - oh. my. goodness.

Elmore -

I like the carol /hymn  People Look East a lot --- we sing it every Advent but it is not a well known carol

It's the same tune as the French carol "Shepherds, Shake Off Your Drowsy Sleep," but the imagery of "People, Look East" fits our show well, and it begins the piece. I'm starting to get very excited about the whole thing, and I think it's going to be fun. I've arranged for the tomorrow's rehearsal the following:
  West Virginia Mine Disaster
  People, Look East
Sing, All Men/Ring the Christ Church Bells
I Wish I Was Single Again (Men and Women's versions)
  Christmas Time's A-Comin'
It's The Goold Old Mountain Dew
  Beautiful Star of Bethlehem
How Far Is It To Bethlehem?
The six songs in the "Appalachian Carols" arrangement I wrote for my Dad

Then we've gt eight pieces that need to be arranged and dictated by the staging, so I'm giving the actors photocopies from various carol and other song books.

So, who are these people who have egg on their faces from the end of the world that wasn't?  As I said, I stayed away from reading about it or listening to the news.  Someone recount who these people are and how many took them seriously.

Many fools did. There were parents who'd stopped putting money into their children's college funds because they wouldlfn't live to see college, there was a man interviewed on the news who's spent around $40,000 of his retirement funds for ephemera on the event and REPENT FOR THE END IS AT HAND brochures, there were parents who'd told their children they were going to die yesterday. Since I shy away from street preachers and other assorted loonies, I only get thingson the tv.

I'm back!

I took 50 empty cartridges to the store, and they only offer credit for 20/month. Since I had no urge to schlep back 30 cartridges, I left them all and got a store credit of $100, which will use to pay for the paper to print the final EILEEN scores.

I think I'm going to begin this medieval epic on DVD, PILLARS OF THE EARTH. I'm too groggy to accomplish much else today.

The whole "world is coming to an end" yesterday was just stupid.

Everyone know the world ends in December 2012.

For all those in NYC....

Have you been following the musicians union protesting at the Palace Theater over the canned music used in Priscilla? The producers said that if they lose they will hire the musician but they will "sit on the hands".

DR Michael S - First of all, the Priscilla situation is not, in the bigger picture, just an NYC issue.

As for my thoughts on the issue, well...

I think the AFM needs to focus more on the revivals that come in using greatly reduced orchestrations and orchestras. If the AFM wins this case, and the producers are able to hire "walkers" - which were eliminated in the last big contract negotiation, that will surely just open up another can of worms by making the hiring of "walkers" a possibility again.

I think the reason so much attention is being paid to Priscilla is because it's at The Palace and that's where the revival of West Side Story played - and that was the production that invoked it's "cut list" after opening. -And the "cut list" is something the AFM somehow approved in the first place. ???

Now, if the AFM does win, I wonder if they'll try to get Mamma Mia! to do the same thing. Mamma Mia! is in the Winter Garden. It was granted a dispensation to use a less musicians than the required minimum... And there are a lot of horn and string samples in the Keyboard 3 and 4 books.

MAMMA MIA is still playing on Broadway?
