THE COCK CROWS

Well, you've read the notes, the notes crowed, and now it is time for you to post until the crowing cows come home - they're currently looking for the cock, who seems to be MIA.

One does wonder if shayne will ever bother responding to emails or bother to do what he said he'd do, yes one wonders, but one is getting quite bored with wondering.

And before he tries to say he never got the emails, perhaps he should check his spam folder. Then again, I think he's received them.

Sorry to have been so otherwise occupied lately.  Got several days to catch up on.

And I'm off to Maryland in a couple of hours for a family gathering.  Likely more travel time than actual gathering, so I'm looking forward to seeing the family, even though not looking forward to the ride getting there.

Good morning, all! I slept late and caught up on all the sleep I needed, and today is mostly a housecleaning day. I'm still putting things away - I would kill for one more room! - and the apartment needs dusting. I will walk down to the Lincoln Center library around 11:30, and that's my day.

I have little else to report at the moment. More coffee!

I think the four greatest Off-Broadway musicals were the following:
THE FANTASTICKS
THE GOLDEN APPLE
THE THREEPENNY OPERA
ONCE UPON A MATTRESS

One notch down:
EARNEST IN LOVE
OIL CITY SYMPHONY
DAMES AT SEA
LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE
PROMENADE
BIRDS OF PARADISE
HOWARD CRABTREE'A WHOOP-DE-DOO
HAIR

Revues:
DECLINE AND FALL OF THE ENTIRE WORLD
JACQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS

The most mediocre ones (IMHO):
THE AMOROUS FLEA
ALL IN LOVE

Plays:
GREATER TUNA
THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES
ULYSSES IN NIGHT TOWN (the one I most wish I'd seen)

How could I have forgotten LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS? The Orpheum production was brilliant!
I also forgot TORCH SONG TRILOGY, and the original production of RECKLESS at the Circle Rep!

For the nadir of Off-Broadway, I'd have to say RUTHLESS.

Dealng with CAMELOT drama.....oh well.....not unexpected.

Why would someone TURN DOWN a role in a show they auditioned for and said they would accept "another role" other than that they listed......do they think that increases their chances of being cast in a LARGER role next time?

Tuesday morning greetings!  I'm meeting today with the senior citizen center development director to share my research progress with her.  Then a little grocery shopping and a lot of puttering here at home to get ready for my cousin's arrival tomorrow and the carpet cleaning/furniture delivery on Thursday.

Good morning. The alarm on my new cell phone doesn't always go off. Today would be an example of that.

TOD - haven't seen very much off-Broadway, but I did enjoy the Mint Theatre's Walking Down Broadway and Richard and I liked Irish Rep's Around the World in 80 Days.

There is one off-Broadway musical I have been curious about for years, and if anyone has an old soundboard recording, you'd be my favorite person.  It was called SMITH and it starred Don Murray as a man whose life kept turning into a musical.  The reason it has intrigued me is that IIRC it was rather successful off-Broadway and it shuttered for a few weeks with the intention of moving to Broadway (it never reopened, not sure why).  I was a kid in NYC during those few weeks and one of my Uncles knew someone either in or with (as in producing) the show and I had a standing invitation to come down and see them rehearse, which like an idiot, I didn't do.  I've wondered about that show ever since.

The cocks still crow.  Even in the city, you can still hear cocks crow occasionally.

It looks like perhaps I misremembered--SMITH evidently was Broadway, it must have been trying to move to a bigger theater.  It was at the Eden.

Well, I'm officially confused.  The Eden is listed as being off-Bway and yet SMITH is listed on the Broadway database, not the off-Broadway database.

Check out Martin Gottfried's wonderful book A THEATRE DIVIDED and OPENING NIGHTS. He liked SMITH enormously.

The Eden was an Off-Broadway theatre. It began as part of the Yiddish Theatre and it's now a multi-plex movie theatre.
