I hate having such a small place. I cannot locate theOverture and finale Ultimo and I know I brought them back frm Toyland yesterday!

Now that Netflix is changing their policies, I thought i'd better catch up on any unreleased movies they show only on their site, so I just watched BITTER HARVEST withy Janet Munro and John Stride, who was the Romeo to Judi Dench's career-making Juliet at the Old Vic. Bleak and bitter, indeed. Almost the same story as OF HUMAN BONDAGE and that of my cousin, Judy the Whore. The lady was indeed a tramp.

I saw BITTER HARVEST on TCM last year......Janet Munro certainly played a different character than she did in SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON!!!

She was kind of a female Laurence Harvey from ROOM AT THE TOP.....

Manhattan's latest child disappearance was tragically solved today:
http://www.hinterlandgazette.com/2011/07/levi-aron-arrested-for-murder-of-9-yo.html

I may have some information wrong here, but it's my understandng that he had begged his parents to prove he was grown up and to walk home from school/camp, and I gather he got lost before this creep came across his path. What I really wonder is why any parent would let a 9 year-old child walk home alone without being certain he could do it. It's so sad.

Today's outre easy listening report department:  I found an old Felix Slatkin LP on eBay for a few pennies, and it arrived yesterday.  Oy, what bizarre arrangements.  Limelight is done as a rock and roll piece, Spellbound is done a la Summer Place with triplets, etc.  And of course I love every minute of it.  :)

DR Jane, when you said you agreed about exercising. Did you mean you think more people exercise in the summer or winter?

DR Cilla, I wonder which one of us is more the norm (me who gains weight in the winter or you in the summer). I honestly thought that many more people exercised in the summer. But I could maybe see more people going to the gym in the winter.

Kevin H. saw the show a couple of weeks ago on a quick NY trip before he went to London. He wrote about it but I don't remember the date and I'm too lazy to look for it.

And now...

We have a brief rehearsal at 3:00, but I want to get a head start into DC since there's apparently even more roadwork going on today.

*Apparently, the traffic situation got even worse last night on the Beltway after a set of power lines were pulled down by one of the work trucks. They were able to get things back up and running after a few hours, but things came to a standstill for a while in both directions. Of course, the power lines have just been "bandaged" right now, and they're going to have make time for a true fix. Ugh.

We watched THE LINCOLN LAWYER last night and enjoyed it very much.

The ending surprised me, which is not an easy thing to do.

So did we.  We also enjoyed it.

I think more people exercise in the summer.  It is possible they work harder at the gym than outside-who knows.

I saw them live in concert about 15 years ago!

I finally returned to my hiking group today.  I was able to walk & meet them as they drove to the hike.  We should have had beautiful views but all we saw was fog.  We did see lots of wildflowers.  I'm just surprised to need warm clothes at this time of year.  It was damp & chilly.

It felt great to go again.

DR George we don't do streaming with NetFlix.  We dropped from the new fee for "4 out at-a-time (no streaming) for $21.99 a month" to 3 DVD's out at-a-time.  I don't know what the new fee is since Keith changed it.

Craig said he didn't see an email from them.  He dropped DVD's & has only done streaming since living here.  He misses the DVD option & was sorry to learn of the price increase.

Back from screening and lunch meeting.  I'd say that the second half of Nudie Musical looks pretty immaculate with only the occasional white specks of negative dirt (it would take another twenty hours to clean all of that up and it really isn't worth it - it's so minor.  They did an amazing job of removing the cue marks and all the light scratches (not that there were that many) - but the most amazing thing is that they cleaned up the end credits, which were riddled with big fat ugly gold and green emulsion scratches up and down both sides of the image.  Those are now completely gone and I do mean not a trace.

But there were a few things in the first fifteen minutes of the transfer that I thought could be better, clean-up wise, and they probably just prioritized what they could do in the time allotted.  Some of that had to do with the white negative specks, but mainly had to do where reel one and one A are joined together (at the ten-minute mark).  Whoever cut the original camera negative did a very poor splice there and the image has always had a little hiccup, plus the ten seconds before and after the join were still scratchy - so I approved doing two more hours and they'll take care of that section and told me they can absolutely get rid of the hiccup in the picture - that will be a wonderful thing.  Of course, it's just more money, so we really have to get this Kickstarter thing happening because as of Monday I'll be writing a rather frightening check to the lab.  Meantime, I told them I can come back tomorrow to just see that fifteen minutes and then it's approved.  Also, the sound had a teeny bit of distortion but I'm going to assume that was the room we were in because we didn't hear any of that doing the audio layback.  It wasn't bad, but it shouldn't really be there at all, so I asked my gal to have the guy who did the layback check on it, especially during the main titles and opening scene.

I was astonished again how nice the transfer looks and sounds.  No, it's never going to look like a big-budget film, and yes, it's fairly grainy at times - we could go in and de-grain and sharpen, but then it loses its film look.  And this transfer is so much more detailed than the DVD and it's certainly as sharp as what was on the internegative.  So, I don't really want to tamper with it - but I discussed it with the clean-up guys and they thought it looked like film and that's what we want.
