Manhattan's latest child disappearance was tragically solved today:

I may have some information wrong here, but it's my understandng that he had begged his parents to prove he was grown up and to walk home from school/camp, and I gather he got lost before this creep came across his path. What I really wonder is why any parent would let a 9 year-old child walk home alone without being certain he could do it. It's so sad.
Tragic!
Truly heartbreaking & the parents will be haunted by there decision forever. I can only say as a parent I got lucky sometimes regarding my decisions.
On the news tonight, it was explained that the parents had walked the boy through the route, but they must have not heavily pushed his remembering any landmarks. He should only have walked a couple of blocks and turned right once, then it was straight to where his mother was waiting for him. He didn't make the right turn, kept walking straight, and got horribly lost. The person he asked for help was the killer.
I would have made him walk the route and followed behind him to prove he knew where he was going before I trusted he could do it. The community, which is heavily Hassidic Jewish, is a very safe neighborhood, so the residents are completely stunned by this.
