I did learn yesterday that my neighbors' 7 year old grandson died in July after a severe asthma attack.  So sad.  He was a cutie.  I can't believe I didn't know about it until now.  I would have done something for them.

Cillaliz, that's terrible.  My condolences to your neighbor's family. :'(

OK, the day ended on a good note.  My client who has been trying to get his 5 kids here from Somalia (well they are in Kenya) just got a date for their interviews to get their visas.   He came in and was very happy and gave me a hug.   That feels much better

That is good! :)

Did anybody happen to catch the CBS fall preview special on last night?  It is such a good idea. I really get little from promos. ANd it's even hard to get a clear grasp when reading about the shows.  But this preview special really described (and showed) what the shows were like.

There are 2 shows that they showed that i was already planning to try. One is Person of Interest with Ben from Lost. Not sure if this will be for me. But i will try it.  The other is A Gifted Man with Patrick Wilson. Sort of seems like part Eli Stone, part Ghost Whisperer. I like him and think i will like this show.

I saw another show previewed that I had heard very little about. It's called Unforgettable.  Some time in the last year on The View there was a segment with Marilu Henner that described a gift that she (and like 6 people in the US?) have where they can remember every detail about every day in their life.

I remember being so fascinated by this at the time (and i was surprised i'd never heard this about Marilu Henner before). Anyways this show Unforgettable is about a a woman (Piper something who was from Without a Trace) who has this condition. And i guess she solves cases.

Thanks for mentioning ths...if I'd've known about it, I would've watched it.  I wonder if it's on CBS's website.  I'll check when I get home. :)

I need to get a haircut.  If you find a link for this will you please share it.

Well, that was easy to find...here it is:  http://www.cbs.com/shows/fall_preview_2011/

DR elmore - Glad to hear that you are feeling better.

You had mentioned returning to Dublin, and I also remember you mentioning that you might be returning there for some more work with the same company again. Any further info on that possibility?

No, DR Jose, no more trips to Dublin at the present, dammit.

Back from a work session, shipping CDs and finally picking up the replacement debit card - thank you USPS for taking nine days to deliver an envelope from Nebraska.

Just to play USPS's Advocate for a second:
-Is there a postmark on the envelope?
-Did PayPal say they sent out your new card on a particular date? Or that they just processed your request for a new card on a certain date?

Otherwise...

Glad to hear you got your new card to go in your new wallet.

LOL, my thoughts as well.

The bad news is the new copier and printer don't work with the whole network (read to my old AND new computers) despite 3 visits from service/sales technicians in as many days.

Vibes the problem can be solved!

Rob was driving when he called, so we didn't get too much information.  I do know they celebrated his birthday by attending a concert by a group called "Within Temptation."  Rob said the weather was so cold he had to buy a sweatshirt.  And Mary Linda bought some household stuff.

DR Jane, some shows start this coming week. I"m sure there is a list somewhere.

I know some shows that you don't watch are starting: Parenthood on tues, vampire diaries on thurs. I'll see if i can find a list. But most are starting the week after. I saw the dates in my sister's Entertainment Weekly.

There is this article in my local paper today that says that 50% of Canadians are illiterate.

They use a scale with 5 levels of literacy. One is very poor literacy skills. Level 2 has a capacity to deal with only simple clear material. Those first two levels are what is considered illiterate.

Level 3 is adequate to cope with demands of everyday life or the level if you completed high school.

I sort of find this shocking since i would say my 5 year old niece is a strong level 2.

We do know at least 50% of Canadians won't read about the study

I personally never thought of people in level 2 as being illiterate. I guess their definition means you have to have a strong comprehension of what you're reading. I always thought illiterate meant you could not read.

I actually tested my niece tonight. There was an Entertainment Weekly with information on the new tv shows. I would say it was fairly complex (maybe a level 3 or 4).

She could read most of the words (there were some big words she did not know). But she understood nothing. She could read the text. But did not understand what she was reading!

DR Cillaliz do you want to know re: BIG BROTHER what happened on the show or what happened after the show on the live feeds?

Anyhow i'll tell you what happened on the show. And then in another post i'll put spoiler warnings in case you don't want to know what happened afterwards.

So on last night's show they showed Adam having to nominate two people. He nominated Jordan and Porsche. The nominations really didn't matter since it was all about who won the veto.

They showed the veto comp that had occured a day or so before. Anyhow Porsche won. So she took herself off the block. So it was Rachel vs Jordan with Porsche being the only vote.

She had decided on the live feeds to vote out Jordan. So J knew she was going. P and J had never spoken the whole summer. And i actually think that Jordan would have beat her in F2 (Brendan, rachel, shelly and jeff for sure). Some people say that P should have kept Jordan because she would have beat her in the final HOH comps. But some of those are questions which J could have won.

Anyhow, Jordan sadly left. And the show ended with Rachel, Adam and Porsche on this huge mixer thing with batter in it. They had to stand on these steps while they were dunked and splashed with the goop. But the thing was spinning. It made me sick just watching it.
