Mardi morning greetings from rainy Reims!  Have I mentioned that I have a head cold?  Richard thinks I should stay in today, but I really want to visit Mumm & Co. to see how they make champagne.  We have a few hours to decide...

We are checked in for tomorrow's flight and our boarding passes are printed.  The hotel computers, which I had to use in order to print, have French keyboards, requiring me to hunt and peck.  Ana was most helpful again today  :)

So...

My bus arrived at Union Station around 12:15pm yesterday. I then made my way to Columbia Heights to meet with my conductor for Boys. We went over the schedule for the first few days of rehearsal, then played through the show just to check on some the changes, transpositions, etc. We had allotted four hours for that. It only ended up taking two. Then I hopped on the Metro back out to Virginia Square where my brother works. We went to dinner, then back to his place. That's when I decided to take a nap. Well... When I woke up the first time, it was around 7:30pm. When I woke up the second time it was already 1:30am. So...

I woke up about an hour ago, and have been catching up on emails, printing out music, going over some details for today, as well as trying to decide whether I want to drive in or take the Metro today.

DR Ginny - Did you purchase some sort of "internet package" on your cruise? It's been great hearing about all of your travels and seeing all of your pictures, but I know that accessing the interwebs while traveling can be quite not the bargain.

Bonjour, DR Jose - you're up early!

Bonjour, DR Ginny - I hope your headcold goes away in time so that you can properly "experience" the Champagne later. :)

DR Jose - our Paris hotel, the boat, and our Reims hotel all provide "free" wi-fi.  It was very wonky in Paris, sporadic on the boat, and here it's working pretty well.  We've decided for our next international trip, we'll definitely have an iPad.  We've done all right sharing my MacBook, but it gets pretty heave for Richard to carry on trains and planes.

WOW! Free WiFi on your boat! Now that's a true selling point!

Well, it was worth about what we paid for it  ;)

To be fair, the locks caused a lot of interference and we had 53 of them.  When it worked, it worked well, but you could get cut off pretty abruptly and often.

DR TCB - The Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre is part of the Prather Entertainment Group - a.k.a. Prather-land. ;) I've worked at their place in Ft. Myers, FL, and they also have one in Mesa, AZ. It's a good place.

As for the Baz Luhrmann's upcoming adaptation of "The Great Gatsby", well...

I, too, think that this is a good fit for Leonardo DiCaprio. However, I'm most interested and excited in Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway.

Some further explanation for DR Jane and others who asked about the mandelballen that Richard and I shared in Rothenberg.  It's a variety of the famous schneeballen (snowball) and starts out with dough rolled  flat and cut into strips:

She then wads the dough up and puts it into this contraption:

The contraption is dipped into hot oil to fry the pastry and then various toppings are applied.  Ours was coated with chocolate and almonds.

TOD:

Gene Hackman's performance in "The Conversation" is superb and is easily my favourite of his films. It's a wonderfully enigmatic film with brilliantly written and portrayed characters.

Ginny, Champagne is good for what ails you -- if you can smell at least. If you can't, what's the point? Feel better soon!

Thanks for posting the cast, Jose. The names that I recognize make it sound like it could be great fun.

TOD: I like Gene Hackman in anything, including "Lucky Lady."

But a few favorites:

Night Moves
The Conversation
The French Connection movies
The Royal Tannenbaums
Superman II
Zandy's Bride
Young Frankenstein

I slept late and came in to find that Annie Casey is on my desk.

It's my last big project for this year (until the project that I do after the data set closes).

I shall be busy from now until next Monday probably.
