BK

Forgot to post my question yesterday.

Do you remember a club in LA called Whskey A Go Go from the mid 1960's? Did you go to it?

Of course.  I never went there, though.

Had a perfectly lovely and cozy Thanksgiving dinner with Melody and folks.  We've sort of adopted each other and I feel we're all family now.  I showed them Melody's second episode of Outside The Box, which they liked very much, and I gave them the hot off the press Melodyland CD, which they were over the moon about.  We had turkey, stuffing, green beans, asparagus, and there was mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes.  I had two helpings of turkey and stuffing (neither too large), one tiny little taste of sweet potatoes, and some green beans and asparagus.  And three small roles.  For dessert we had homemade pumpkin and apple pie - I had small slices of each.  I didn't jog (too chilly and too lazy) but I'm hoping I didn't eat so much that I did too much damage.

The sweet potatoes could have been something you might indulge in as they are just about one of the healthiest tubers out there....perfect for all sorts of regimens.

Of course, they'd have to be without the marshmallows or pecan (or other nut) toppings...

No particular TG memories, so I will bask on those here at HHW....

Ditto and ditto!  I hope that everyone had a wonderful day today!

We had three kinds of homemade pie and one kind of homemade whipped cream.

I went to my sister's this afternoon before going to our parents' house and we watched a bit of the new Phantom of the Opera Blu-ray.  While I was there, my sister was getting a couple of pies ready.  She made a vegan pumpkin pie that was done, but she assembled a vegan peach pie that she was going to bake at our parents' house after the turkey was done and we started eating.  BUT my mom made a Chocolate Lush for dessert so that plus two pies was too much, so my sister didn't bake the peach pie.

What could be considered a memorable Thanksgiving moment happened tonight.  When we were cleaning up after eating dessert and we were ALL stuffed, my sister had put what was left of the pumpkin pie in a box with some other stuff and set it down on the ground.  We then played a game of Scrabble (I came in second!) and when we finally were getting ready to leave, my sister saw that my parents' cat had gotten in the box and sat on the pie!  There were paw prints in the pumpkin!  The pie had been covered with plastic wrap, but it wasn't completely covered, so no left-over vegan pumpkin pie...and I didn't even get a piece at all!

I just thought that that was pretty darned funny...even though it ruined a pie. :D

TOD:

I'm sure I told this same story last year, but there is no Thanksgiving memory in my life that can top this one.  It's one of the stories in my memoir, so if you've read that or were around last year, you should be familiar with it.

 ;)

This is my Thanksgiving story, a tale that my family will never let
me forget.

I love Thanksgiving. I have very warm childhood memories of that
holiday. Every year, we would have a family gathering at our home. My
aunt, uncle and two cousins, as well as my half-brother Hersh and his
family were always there.

We’d sit around the table and, after everybody had stuffed themselves,
people would tell jokes. My uncle, Kenneth, was the #1 storyteller,
but on this particular year, I also decided to contribute to the
merriment…with disastrous results.

I think it was 1954. I would have been thirteen-years-old.
Without contemplating the consequences, I told this very funny
joke that I’d heard at school, and I told it very well.

Correction! I didn’t just tell it very well. I told it brilliantly. I had a
captive audience.

Then, I came to the punch line…which ended with the word “f**k”.

My mother, who’d had a few too many drinks in her, started laughing
hysterically. No matter what else you say about her, she was a wonderful
audience.

Unfortunately, everybody else at the table sat in a stunned silence. If
my mother hadn’t been laughing, you could have heard a pin drop.

You see, in 1954, a thirteen-year-old boy did not say
“f**k”...particularly in front of adults.

The first one to speak was my father. Pointing at me, he started
shouting at my mother, “You’re the one who encourages him! This is all
your doing!”

Within two minutes, all of our very embarrassed guests had excused
themselves and left our house.

I don’t recall if I was sent to my room or not, but I know I never
told another joke at Thanksgiving dinner.

 ;D

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

So Druxy, do you remember the joke?

;)
