Good morning, all! I was tormented by several dreams about recording in Ireland, but I would swear I was in Australia, which means that even in my dreams my sense of geography is totally screwed up.

After my COPS break - did the episodes deal with anything but prostitution last night? - I worked a while on a mess of a number called "Hot Spot," and around 10:30 I watched a DVD, the 2008 movie of EASY VIRTUE with Colin Firth and Jessiva Biel. It's loosely based on a 1924 comedy by Noel Coward, but it's been rewritten by its director to add some stupid slapstick about killing a dog, a lot of Anglo-American differences, and a revised ending with Mr Firth leaving his über-bitch wife for his daughter-in-law. I felt we'd gone from one Noel Coward play to another, DESIGN FO LIVING. It was also quite full of"watch this cool director" shots. O sort of liked it.

Today, more "Hot Spot" from ROBERTA, and if/when I finish it today, I'll proceed to another number.

At long last Amazon has a Spanish site, which makes it easy to order all those classic films which aren't on sale elsewhere.

Today's Favorite Old TV Guide Ad:  "Can these stripes really protect me from careless item pricing?"  A full page ad with a somewhat frightened looking woman holding what looks like a box of Saran Wrap with the "newfangled" technology of a UPC code on the bottom of the box.  The ad goes into quite a bit of detail about how this incredible new convenience works.  :)

Thanks, again, for the travel vibes. I did have a little trouble checking in since, apparently, when I tried to check in last night online, JetBlue's computer system was upgrading, so it did not completely go through. Thankfully, the gate agent figured out what the issue was, and got everything straightened out. She also very graciously dealt with my sleep- and caffeine-deprived brain - I had not consolidated my carry-ons down to two items, and she gently suggested which bag I could place in which bag.

The flight from Dulles to JFK was very nice and uneventful. I even ended up with the same flight crew I had yesterday on my flight from Long Beach. Best of all, it was not a full flight and I had the row to myself. :)

I went ahead and splurged on a cab back into the city from JFK. When I got into the taxi line, the dispatcher and some of the drivers had a case of the giggles. Apparently, it was a very slow morning at the Jet Blue terminal at JFK. I got in my cab around 9:40am. My cab driver got to the JFK cab lot at 5:00am... I was his first fare of the day!?!?!

Oh!

My piano part for MY FAIR LADY was waiting for me when I got back last night. I didn't realize that it had been arranged for two pianos by the great Trude Rittmann.

The Royal Mail website got going again and at long last I have done all the Christmas cards - apart from the ones which I will be handing out personally. This evening I will have to go out and drop round the various neighbours' cards.

I loved Trude! I was just speaking about her in a 90-minute phone call with my friend Gary Holt, who teaches at the Cologne Conservatory, the school from which Trude graduated before the Nazis forced her into exile. Gary is going to write the notes on Herbert's German lieder for the liner notes.

Great notes, KevinH. I especially enjoyed reading about "On a Clear Day." For the music's sake, i hope it makes it.

Elmore, I just bought "Easy Virtue" for $3 at Big Lots and sort of enjoyed it, too. I really wish, though, that people would stop lumping Noel and Cole together on soundtracks like that. Especially when the songs are played as instrumentals, you can tell the vast different in their musical styles.

But I thought the movie could have been a lot worse. And Kristin Scott Thomas deserves some sort of award for allowing herself to be seen in such a completely unflattering light.

Well, the book gets done today, whether we are done or not. Am off to do some class work and then polish the manuscript as much as possible.
