I think I'll go through some of the "Unpurchased" items in my Amazon Wish List and purchase them.  For myself.
Did that yesterday.

I don't use the Wish List, I just put things in my cart and then "Save for later."  I got $100 in gift cards/certificates for Christmas!  I intend to spend every $ very soonly. :D

But depending on what I get with my $, I may get as few as two items or many more items than two.

Even the original logo was bizarre!
I love that. My sheet music is in green.

Travel vibes for DR KEVIN H

Ditto.

Thanks DRGeorge and DRJohnG!  Now the scheduled takeoff time is 3:05.  The crew has arrived , but due to air traffic in JFK we are delayed till then.  Plus, it's now snowing so the plane will need de-icing.  But most connections , including mine, are still "fine."

They just announced that we're waiting for our crew to arrive and the flight is delayed by 20 minutes.  All connections are fine, the agent says.

I love that!  They make things complicated enough so that passengers have to get to the airport two hours early but the crew can waltz in any time they like.

Just read a disturbing report:  THE ADDAMS FAMILY will be closing on B'way this Saturday and, after having played over one year and eight months, will still lose *all* of its original 16.5 million dollar investment.

Reading something like that makes me realize--I really don't understand show business.

I think it happens much more often than you think. And I also think that several shows that have trumpeted recoupment have flat out lied.

She of the Evil Eye didn't show up, so maybe I misunderstood what she was saying. Oh and I'm up. Spent a lot of time on the phone with Apple Care. More later when the computer finishes its long first backup. It's halfway done ans should be through in two hour. Can't use it until then.

I don't think Memphis has made back its investment either and it cost much less to stage than Addams Family.

I'm glad I held off on downloading the Bebe Neuwirth recording--I checked it again at lunch time and the price dropped to just $4.99.

I'm about halfway through it and I have to say that it disappoints.  I can't put my finger on it, but there seems to be a flatness to it overall, as if she and the band were cranking out demos or something.  It's a shame because it's a fun set of songs.  It sounds like she needed an audience for this to make it come alive.

Today's The Times They Are A-Changin' Rant:  When I was being raised, we were taught that the "t" in often was silent, and in fact I knew a guy who was working on his Master's Degree at the same time I was working on mine who did a thesis on the different "classes" of people who pronounced the word variously with the "t" silent or not.  In those days (early 80s), saying the "t" was a sign of a less "privileged" socioeconomic upbringing, at least according to this guy's research.  In the ensuing years, things have changed and it's harder and harder to find anyone who pronounces "often" without saying the "t."

Hello, everyone.

DR JMK, I was taught that the "t" is silent. I always thought it had to do with the part of the country that you grew up in.

Like DR George, I use Save for Later at Amazon. And my queue is huge. Instead of making notes to myself (which I may or may not find later), I just put everything in my queue.

If that don't take the rag offen the bush, DR JMK!

This is bringing up some vague memory of some Amish phrase my Mom used to quote (she came from Amish country in Pennsylvania).

One non-Amish phrase from Pennsylvania that I still remember my Grandmother and Aunts using is "red up the house" (as in ready it for guests, though when I was young I thought they meant they were going to color it).

Sorry to hear about Helen Frankenthaler. I always liked her work. And I, too, have a framed poster from the Whitney. Mine's faded, though. She was only 83? I always thought of her as older.

Last night I watched WAKING SLEEPING BEAUTY, which BK reviewed here a couple months ago. I enjoyed it. I knew that Don Bluth had done two stints at Disney--one before BK and I worked with him and one after--but I hadn't realized that he was such a significant player there. Some at Disney called him "another Walt." My God!! Don and his brother Fred are both ENORMOUSLY talented.

Jeanne, there certainly was a geographical element, but as I recall in this guy's thesis, the geography was actually more linked to socioeconomic status--in other words, better off people in, say, Appalachia wouldn't pronounce the "t" while the backwoods folk would.

Speaking of animators, there was a Christmas party given at the Bluth home in Santa Monica one year. Don was urged to do his bird imitation. It was incredible. This was not some imitation bird call. Don, through body language, showed us how a bird prepared for flight. I realized that in order to draw birds all day--and do so realistically--one had to carefully observe them. Don had "internalized" their movements to an amazing degree. I'll never forget it.

You--and your friend--may be quite correct. I had noticed that friends who pronounced the "t" were usually from the South. They also didn't have much money, but I only made the first connection.
