Sunday morning greetings!  We are at home with a still-icy driveway and Fr. Richard is still asleep.  I'm cheering on the thermometer as it creeps up above freezing, because I want to go to a girlfriend get-together at 3 this afternoon.

The wind is up again. I've just had to do some temporary shoring up of the fence.

I'm impressed by the speed at which bk is writing but I don't think he will beat the speed of the British writer Donald S Rowland. He usually began writing a book on Monday and finished on Friday. He wrote and had published over 500 novels in 25 years up to 1983, under not only his own name but also under about 70 aliases. He eventually burned himself out - not surprisingly - when he was in his mid 50s and found he just couldn't write anymore.

Betsy is skiing with our niece today.  Our niece is finishing her last semester at Reed, which means she soon won't be able to say "no" when we ask her to housesit.  ;)

Woo and Hoo, the melting compound that Richard put on the driveway 24 hours ago is finally beginning to take effect!  And my car seems to be thawing out!  I may get out to my girlfriend get-together after all!

On my way down to Chelsea, most of the sidewalks were already cleared, and my favorite deli had some amazingly fresh fruit today. It's a brisk, NYC winter day! :)

I'm up.  I was actually up at 7:45 and wrote some notes on my bedside pad.  Then I stayed in bed and eventually fell asleep again and got up at ten-thirty.  I shall now finesse.

DR Jane re: your question last night about netgalley ( I could email you but maybe someone else will be interested in the answer).

I'm not an expert since i just joined this week. But my understanding is that you have to be a librarian, someone who sells books or have a blog, or review a lot of books on goodreads. I don't think you review your books on goodreads (I was told that was why i could join). You could always check the site out (netgalley).  But it seems like you don't get approved for most of the books you ask for anyhow :(

I'm 25% finished with Catch Me. And so far it's excellent. Will your library get an e-copy? It sounds like that is much easier for you to read. I must say other than the light issue (I need a bright light right near my kindle) i am loving not holding the book (never thought i would love it).

Considering I need to type not more I won't be writing a blog.  I need to get used to buying books again.  I just checked the library ebook site again & Catch Me isn't on it.  I'm second on the queue for the hardcover when it comes out.  I like the idea of reading a brand new book, that is until I read it in bed.    I took the nice cover off of my Nook and find it more comfortable without the extra weight on it.  I like the Nook Color with the back-light for reading at night.  The downside of that is reading it in the sunlight is difficult.

Yes.  I can walk or go in Keith's SUV, which I prefer not to drive.  I have a regular car I don't want to risk damaging.

And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to occasional dear reader Elan!  Did you know Elan left a post here on the very first day of this site's existence?  As did a few others.

Who were the others that posted on the very first day of this site's existence?

My dear neighbor Sheree Sano sang my Petula Clark DON'T SLEEP IN THE SUBWAY PARODY, so naturally I put it on YouTube - it's one joke, but with the Subway chain being in the news about their recent product placements, I figured what-the-heck and YouTubed it:
