It's supposed to hit 80 today and the sun is out. Much better than Saturday when it was rainy, windy and ugly all around.

It's raining here and I'm home recovering from a fever from last night and some major congestion.  I have cleared my calendar and I'm not leaving the couch.

For stress and being physically tired, and well, stressed out, I retreat for at least a day or so to restore my batteries.

For worry, I found a little trick that actually works for me. A friend told me about it and made me do it once, and I found it worked for me.  I make a list of all the things I'm worried about and want to worry about.  I don't actually do any worrying-- I just add the item to the list.  I then set aside some time  (30 minutes or an hour depending on how many things there are), and I worry about them.  I have the copmplete luxury to totally worry for that time.  When the Bell rings, and the time is up, I put the list aside and quit worrying.  It sounds silly, but it works.  And it frees me up the rest of the time to not worry (especially about all those needless things that you find you relly don't have to worry about anyway).  I rarely have to do this anymore because there aren't that many things that actually make it to the list these days.

I love the quote from Into the Woods where Cinderella's Prince says to Jack's Mother in response to Jack's Mother being concerned that Jack might be dead:  "Worrying will do you no good. If he's safe, then he's safe. If he's been crushed, well, then, there's nothing any of us can do about that, now is there?"

The two quotes (mantras) that I tend to repeat are:  "Worrying will do you no good" and "It'll be what it'll be."

It is a Winter Wonderland in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

It's been snowing in the Tumwater/Olympia area, too!  Although right now it's quite sunny and the snow is melting.

JRand-
I really like your approach to handling stress.
Will keep that image of a chest of drawers in my mind, and try not to open more than one at a time.
Thanks!

Don't know if this has been mentioned, as I have not caught up, but they are installing a 24 hour ATM CUPCAKE machine on the Upper West Side.

They're ba-a-a-ack!  The guys in the noisy yellow trucks are here to clean up the mess they made in front of our house in December:

Vibes to BK for a safe and uneventful trip home.
Great cabaret, great company, and great coconut cake.
I am still finishing my baked potato. :)

Oh Iris, they wouldn't let you leave the table until you finished your baked potato?  You must have been very lonely.

I think it is also important to note that while you are an extremely busy person, you are,  in fact, captain of your own ship  while most of the rest of us are mere sailors and must heed time-frames imposed upon us by those who pay our wages

Hey, that makes me the captain of my own barge!

I am super excited. I just read that this tour of female YA writers (Smart Chicks kick it) is coming right near me in September:

http://www.smartchickskickit.com/schedule.html

Hopefully they will add a few more of the authors to the event that is here here (since I love 3 of them who are not listed for Montreal).

Also, I am praying that my niece will not schedule her birthday party for that time (it is on a saturday at 2pm and her birthday is on the Monday). Luckily my sister also likes at least one of those authors. And she sounded like she would be agreeable to doing the party on the Sunday (since she does have 6 months notice).

This is the bookstore i always go to. Fingers crossed.

RE: the TOD I think it is very common for people under a lot of stress to keep to themselves.  And i don't think it should be held against them. Everyone handles things differently. And it's nothing against their friends/family. It's just how they deal with things.

Oh, yes, DR Ginny, it is indeed.
Ya swipe your credit card, get charged $4, and out comes a lovely cupcake in a box.
Wish I had thought of it first.

TCB-
I was so busy chatting away last night that it took me over an hour to finish my baked potato. I don't talk and eat at the same time, so I chose to talk.
Bruce was horrified at how incredibly long I was taking, but what can ya do?

I'm here at the airport now.  I was originally going to leave the hotel at nine-thirty, but folks told me it could take an hour to ninety minutes, so i got nervous and left at nine instead.

I'm always terrified of delays getting to airports (I've had some bad ones as well) so I always leave ridiculously early and end up having hours to kill waiting at the airport.

As for today's TOD--
I tend to be more of a turtle when it comes to dealing with stress. I share my problems with a select few, and even with those close friends, I never want to be a burden.

Nature always soothes me, especially walks in Central Park, or on the beach in California.
Good movies and reading also work wonders for me.
