And speaking of what BK calls deli food (I mostly just consider this smoked meat, chopped liver ...). But today I am going to have bagels, cream cheese and lox.

For my birthday dinner I always have ribs (my favorite). But i've eaten at this restaurant a few times in the past few months and they discontinued the rib special (at full price it makes me feel like i am getting ripped off). So since my nieces begged me ... I will be going to my favorite Chinese restaurant (and i do love Chinese food).

I am on a rather bizarrely eclectic listening jag these days.  My attempts to find cover versions of the Lullaby from Rosemary's Baby has led me to all sorts of outre offerings, including a Polish duo who appear to be that nation's Ferrante and Teicher, as well as Jewish jazzman Harvey Averne.  Yesterday I got an old Doc Severinson album, as well as a Roger Williams outing.  The Williams arrangement recasts the tune as a French Impressionistic number, with lots of dominant 13th structures--funny.

Perhaps because I have been playing through the mega-Leslie Bricusse limited edition songbook of late, I had a rather odd dream last night where I was living with Joan Collins and she really, really, really wanted me to marry her.

So, maybe those dominant 13ths are sending vibes of their own through the air.  ;D

Before my mom left she left me a bag with my favorite treats. I guess she knows me because there were pistachio nuts and Reese's peanut butter cups!

Well it's not so much the ribs i like but the sauce (which they don't have at this Chinese restaurant).

Also there are set dinners and none of them have ribs.  The good part is because it's not a weekend hopefully this restaurant won't be too full (it is small but has great food).

I could have sworn Jennifer just had a birthday, as I recall typing:

Happy Birthday to my almost initial twin Jennifer.

I think it was BK's daughter who had the last Jennifer birthday.

There's some famous deli in L.A. I remember we went to when we were down there for our nephew's bris.  This was early in Betsy's and my marriage and she had been insisting to me that her parents never argued.  Well, they got into a very intense but whispered verbal scuffle at the deli that morning and I later told Betsy the only difference between how her parents argued and how my parents argued was the volume level.  :)

Yes, Canter's.

I fell back asleep around six, I guess.  Woke up to no Internet, so I called Time Warner, but as the gentleman in India was being completely unhelpful, it came back on.

There has been a bluebird perching on the deck right outside my window here for the past two days.  I am taking it as an omen of good fortune.

TOD:

Tongue, corned beef, pastrami, chopped liver.

When I was a kid in Seattle, every Sunday my father would take me down to Cherry Street where the Jewish delis were, and he'd buy all that great stuff for dinner.

I understand that those places are all gone now.

Inspection vibes for DR JMK.....

That St. Joseph is still buried on the property LOL.  I'll have to go dig it up if this sale finally closes.  ;)

Hmmm....I don't think we have any real delis in Salem, Oregon, USA. Those that call themselves delis are actually gambling joints.

So...I would guess that my first deli food would be sweet and sour tongue which I had on my first NYC trip. My mind is foggy this morning so I can't even think of the name of the place, but Elmore will know since he was there with me.

Happy Birthday, Jennifer!!!

It's raining on and off here, but it's a wonderful spring rain where the windows are open and a lovely light breeze is flowing through them.  Ooodles of lovely-ness.

I'm off to score a little "Hail to the Chief" for the scene change into the White House.
