I got two crowns a year ago, two molars next to each other, but -- and this was completely new to me -- they were Same Day Crowns.  Who knew?  She did the drilling and filing down, took some kind of impressions and measurements (in some new high-tech process, all computerized), made sure I was numb and brushed something on the teeth to further protect them, and told me come back in three hours.  When I got back, the two new porcelain crowns (I think they're still porcelain, but maybe the material is something new, too?) were waiting on the tray for me.  Getting them in and positioned perfectly was awkward as hell (which is partly my fault, as I'm a royal pain in the bloomin' arse to do dental work on), but it was all done in an hour or so and I walked out of there whole.

BK, today was the worst of the 2 appointments it takes to complete a crown.  Just be careful with the temporary - they're not very substantial and they come out pretty easily.  Seating the permanent crown is usually pretty easy.

Temps are not very pretty, either.  When I had my 4 front teeth capped in 1994, I referred to the temporaries as my Mrs. Doubtfire teeth.

DR ChasSmith, that sounds like a great way to do a crown procedure!

Speaking of the Victor Herbert collection - I'm in the middle of uploading them into iTunes.  Very excited as I only know a handful of Victor Herbert music, mainly a few songs from operetta's.

Back from Dr. Chew and picking up no packages.  He prepared one tooth for its cap today - so, yes, I had Novocain, but he gave me enough topical numb thing that I didn't even feel the needle go in.  Then he had to file down the cracked tooth to its nub - they leave just enough for the cap to bond to.  That took a really long time.  I get the real cap in two weeks, in the meantime, I have a temporary.

Be careful not to chew much on the temp side.  Sometimes they fall out.

Lucky you to have a dentist who could make your crown so quickly.   Is she a young dentist with her own lab?

I hope I never need to cap or replace my front teeth.

It looked like the crown "machine" was just that ... a machine sitting right there in the room with the dental chair.  Or maybe what I saw was the computer part of something that takes place in some back room.  As to your other question, well, she's younger and better looking than some of her patients!    :)    (Seriously, I always HIGHLY and unhesitatingly recommend her to anyone in the area who's in need or want of a fine dentist.)

After the first porcelain crown is in in two weeks, then I go back to have the second tooth (bottom right in the back) filed, then two weeks after that I get THAT crown - so many visits still to come.  But he was very pleased that my gums are looking very healthy after three weeks.

Ginny, have you eaten at a place in Dayton called Rue Dumaine? The chef, Anne Kearney, was up for a Beard Award for best chef of that region. She lost to a Chicago chef, but getting nominated for that is great.

I gotta tell you.  I did two a two-mile jog.  The Novocain is finally wearing off and I must admit that area of my mouth doesn't feel all that great right now.

When I had a crown done, after all the prep work, they told me to just wait. He came back in after about a half hour with the new crown and put it on.

And my mouth didn't feel so great, either. So I took some ibuprofen and listened to my brand new Jonathon and Darlene CD.

DR Danise,

Too cute!!!  Thank you, DR Jane.  I only ate about half the slice of cake.  It's funny.  I haven't been eating to many sweets since I discovered I have diabetes.  You would think I would really enjoy it but it doesn't taste as good to me any more.  Same with soda.  I've been drinking Simply Lime or Simply Lemonade or plain water.  I don't really care for the sweet drinks.
