Well, you've read the notes, the notes were slightly numb, and now it is time for you to post until the numb cows come home.

Busy morning already. I've had the mailman ringing the doorbell with a large package and the window cleaners have called and it's still only 8.00 o'clock.

My least favorite cabaret show was John Gabriel who is a good singer, but did his life/career story complete with video clips. I didn't care for this aspect of the show and would have rather have a "standard" cabaret show.

Good morning, all! I'm happy to report that I had no dreams that I can remember last night. I did sleep quite poorly. I guess I was too fraught about all the tsuris stirred up by that email to New World Records which was mostly about the writer's unhappiness, after all he had done on behalf of Victor Herbert and after all the help he'd given me and the Library of Congress, to receive no acknowledgement on the recording. He didn't come out and accuse me of plagiarizing him, but he was certain I'd used his information from his lectures and recordings or in my discussions with several mutual acquaintances. I spent too much time fretting over it and defending myself too many times yesterday. I got very little accomplished beyond that.

The dogs bark and the caravan moves on.

More coffee!

TOD: Thankfully, I haven't seen enough nightclub acts to have seen a bad one. I remember once seeing Ann Morrison do her act when she lived in Sarasota, Fla., and the audience didn't know half of the songs she sang and didn't seem to care for the material, so they sat on their hands, which was unfair to her. She was great, even if the material (a lot of the David Friedman/Bucchino variety) was mixed.

I have a morning at the McGlinnventory with a music dealer who, I hope, will take a lot of the printed scores and books off our hands. After that I need to stop at Toyland and pack up for the Library of Congress some possessions of John McGlinn's that got moved to the new offices in 2002 when McGlinn left the project. He had moved all of his Kern and Herbert holdings into the office because he had no room in his own apartment. In 2002, I thought we'd removed everything of his, but he hadn't. According to his will, it now goes to the Library. I'm glad we found the materials before the office is evacuated.

That's my day.

I may get an invitation to the Encores! dress rehearsal of GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES tonight, but, if I don't, I've got a ticket for Friday night.

We're celebrating this rare sunny weather by planting all the little edits from the PBS Downton Abbey and hoping they grow into full episodes.

Tuesday morning greetings!  It's another rainy day here in SW Ohio, but I was unable to sleep past 7:30.  Have some household things to do this morning, then a Middfest meeting this afternoon and a crafty-ladies get-together this evening.

My initial reaction is "Aw, Maurice Sendak has died."  but then I remember how truly miserable he's been these past few years and how he couldn't wait to drop.

Today is Primary Election Day in Indiana......it is mostly a case of "I'm more conservative than YOU are...."

There is a move to unseat our senior senator Richard Lugar who has served SIX terms......I must say that he is a politician in the best sense of the word.  He hasn't done a LOT.....but he does have friends in high places and can certainly call in a favor or two if he needs to.

Our Junior Senator is in his first term.....if we elect another NEW guy - we will have two senators representing us with less than 3 years of Senate experience.....back to square one......

TOD:  I haven't been to a lot of nightclub shows either.....mostly just bands.  I have seen a few comedians, but mostly they have been well received.....

So I shall just hope I never have an experience like the one MR BK describes from last night.

Oh....I watched SMASH last night, and it was okay.  I like the "show" parts of the show.  There was one kind of transcendent moment last night when Anjelica Huston sang "September Song" in a bar......

And I will admit that Mess Messing was funny in her scene when everyone was complaining about the downer ending of the show....."She died....."

TOD:

The absolute worst performance I ever saw was Helen Reddy at the Latin Casino.  This was at the height of her career ('73 or '74?) but she had no stage personality.  It was just her (wearing what looked like a heavy winter coat) on stage, bright white spotlight following her as she wandered from one side of the stage to the other during her songs, no patter.  And she had an encore for every freakin' song!  I remember that my friend and I had giggling fits during the repeated choruses of "Leave me alone, won't you leave me alone, please leave me alone..."

She was paired with George Carlin, who had to really work to wake up the crowd.
