I enjoyed last night's concert very much.   I was hoping the vocalists would have had more songs to sing, though.  It was the Buffalo Philharmonic's final Pops show of the season.

The orchestra played a "Hollywood Salute,"  "Moon River,"   a Lennon/McCartney medley and a Ray Charles tribute.  Not sure if the Ray Charles tribute was wise--it just doesn't fit with a big orchestra.

A special guest was accordionist and local opthamologist (really!) Dr. Albert Schlisserman.  He was really great!

I think a bottle of water has to be standing on the table because it cannot bend at the waist and/or knees in order to sit down.  Then again, because the bottle has no power of locomotion of its own, and it is placed in its position by another life form....it is set down on the table.....

So - if you were the life form that placed the water bottle in said location....said bottle could be said to be setting on the table.

IF, however, you come into the room, and the bottle is already there, and you are not aware of the circumstances of its placement, the bottle could then clearly be described as standing on the table.

Concert report cont'd:  Jan Horvath and George Dvorsky sang "Another Opening...," and a short Irving Berlin medley and "You're Not Sick, You're Just in Love."  It was funny when Jan sang the line "put your head on my shoulder"--George had to really lean down to do that--I think he's about 6'4" tall.

Jan sang "I'm a Brass Band" and "If They Could See Me Now" and George sang "All I Care About is Love."  Their solo showstoppers were "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" and especially "Bring Him Home."

George, I assume you know this already, but I will say it anyway:  if you have DirecTV or cable tv, you need to turn on CC through them in the Menu options, not on your tv itself.

DR Cillaliz--I'm in Buffalo visiting my family.  I come here several times a year.

I'm in Phoenix, and I'm here all year.

I will say there is usually one knockout number in every MJL score.  Unfortunately there are usually about 20 songs in every MJL score.  ;)
I like some MJL, but not as much as he writes. And yet, I buy it. All of it. I will Queen of the Mist eventually. And Giant.

And I agree with Elmore that he's a bit too pretentious and self-important.

Elmore, I plan to see Hysteria if it ever comes here. "The Vibrator Play" is playing here, so I can hope the movie will get here eventually.

It's nap time.

But, ChasSmith, maybe it's just Hoosiers that are a state of mind. (Said by a native Kentuckian.)

Sunday afternoon greetings!  We attended a beautiful service at The Church of the Ascension and Saint Agnes and sat behind Ambassador John Campbell (ambassador to Nigeria, 2004-2007).  We didn't know that until we got home and did some internet research, but I'd heard someone greet him as Mr. Ambassador and at the end of the service he turned around and introduced himself as John Campbell.  The parishioners there were as friendly today as when we went there 5 years ago.

They are having to repair the small tower and the roof and, then, the organ.  The organ was damaged when rocks and roofing fell into it.  This is damage from last August's earthquake, which also damaged the National Cathedral and the Washington Monument.

The water bottle is standing.

(Which could be spoken like "The water bottle is INSIDE THE HOUSE.")

Yes, a water bottle can "sit" as in "being set" somewhere.  But water bottles, in fact, stand.  It's all they can do.  Like cows.

Ten dollars, please.

We're back at the hotel watching the Indianapolis 500.  When it's over, we'll head for the Folger Shakespeare Library for the 7pm performance of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW.  I read last night on their website that it's going to be a Wild West version - hmm.

Yes, DL Iris, they were telling us at church that they didn't have earthquake insurance and the National Cathedral didn't, either.  Who'd have thought they'd need it?
