JRand.....I agree about MAD MEN  last night.
Am still rather shocked at the ending.....just didn't see that coming, although I suppose it was inevitable.

Crazy weather in Central Park yesterday afternoon......sun and rain at the same time.
Felt like the tropics.
Have decided to spend today inside an air conditioned movie theater.....at least, part of today.

John G....That cat really likes you.....it's a sign of affection when you are "rewarded" with an offering like that.
My cat brought me dead lizards when I lived in Phoenix.

Memorial Day greetings from Washington's Reagan National Airport!  Because a) check out time at the hotel was noon and b) it's hot and muggy here in DC, we just headed for the airport and checked in for our 5pm flight.  We're enjoying the air conditioning, the view of the Potomac, and the passing scene.

TOD - it's hard to top last week's "All the porn stars are going to be there!" that we over heard in Bryant Park, but I just heard a guy on his cell phone say, "Hi, we're at Dulles."  I don't think so...

The Memorial Day Concert in Washington was really strange.  I was in the process of getting ready for bed, when suddenly I hear this voice telling the audience that they willl need to evacuate quickly, but in an orderly manner.  I am like, "WTF?"  Then the host (Siese?  Mantegna?) comes back and explains that is a weather emergency, but that the show will continue.  The concert continues for about  ten more minutes, and then the show is officailly stopped and they annouunce that they will show last year's concert.  Then after that broadcast, they start over with last night's concert again right up to the point where the weather service stops the performance.

And, of course, I forgot that Ginny and Richard were going to TAMING OF THE SHREW; so I worried that they might have gone to the concert.

Thanks for worrying about us last night, DR TCB.  Our niece, Jennifer, did, too.  She sent me a Facebook message checking to make sure we were OK.

So, Ginny, the big weather emergency was rain?  Or was there more of a storm than that?

More on the SHREW production we saw last night.  The characters of Tranio and Baptista were played by, and as, women.  Kate and Bianca's mother had an Irene-Ryan-as-Granny-Clampett quality, which was quite funny.  The female Tranio clearly had a crush on Lucentio, which made it kind of bittersweet when she had to court Bianca on his behalf.

DR TCB,  apparently it was a thunderstorm.  By the time we got out of the theatre, it was only raining, but there had been thunder and lightening earlier.

According to the handy-dandy Reagan National dining and shopping guide, there's a Five Guys right next to our gate.  Maybe we'll be really decadent and have lunch there!

My sister, brother-in-law and I went to my nephew's house for a little celebration of his 26th birthday yesterday.  The rain held off and there was even a nice cool breeze.   Today is a different story--hot and humid.

I intend to honor National Burger Day by making my own pale imitations of Shake Shack burgers.  It won't be the blend, and it'll be on an outdoor grill instead of the whatever-you-call-it (griddle?). But I'll grill carefully, and I've got good quality beef, the Martin's potato rolls, Roma tomatoes, two kinds of onions, leaf lettuce, Heinz ketchup, relish, and a choice of Guldens Spicy Brown and Nathan's Deli Mustard.  We'll get by somehow.

Gee thanks, DR Chas, I am sitting here dying for a burger, and you provide all the gory details of your burgers.  Yum.
